  1. Thanks BrazilianPhD! I Agree that even I haven’t heard of psychological tests for PhD applicants.... i am am a bit concerned as I wasn’t able to articulate my exactreasons for pursuing a business PhD. Even though I am very interested in the project but my background isn’t entirely in psychology and the committee was probing me to find out if my background would meet with the project requirements... Also are you expected to deeply know what research the professors are doing...as I just broadly told told them about the area they work in and didn’t categorically list their papers....is that okay? i am just being paranoid I guess....anyway thanks!
  2. Hi, I applied to a dutch management PhD programme and had a Skype interview with them a couple of days ago. It is for a particular PhD vacancy against an identified project I am really interested in pursuing. The interview was mostly focused around my reasons for pursuing a PhD and why at that particular school. I believe they are interviewing multiple candidates and told that they would get back in a few days. Also there would be an "assessment" if they decide to proceed with my candidature. Does anyone have any idea what these assessments check (Technical skills or just psychological tests) ? I am really interested in the project and was wondering if its common to interview multiple candidates ? Thanks for your time?
  3. Institution Name: HKUST Business School, Hong Kong Concentration (e.g. Strategy, OT, OB): Management PhD (would concentrate on strategy and organization theory) Date of Notification: 24th Jan 2013 Type of Notification (e.g. email/phone/snail mail): Email Notification (e.g. Interview / Waitlisted / Accepted): Accepted Posted on GradCafe? Yes Comments: Hey hi!! Although I realize that most of you are concentrating upon US schools. I would really appreciate your inputs or comments regarding the school as I have to make my mind about the same within a week.By the way I am an international student with some of the best degrees from my country of origin. All the best to fellow forum members! cheers!!
  4. The reason that I want to first complete the degree is that I have spent considerable time, effort and money into the endeavour and the MBA degree would I guess complement me in future academic job search as well once I complete my business phd. What's your opinion about this. Would schools be willing to consider this aspect or are they reluctant to grant deferral thinking that I may decline the next year as well. Also the school where I am doing my MBA is one of the top school in my country.
  5. Dear friends!! If anyone has a similar experience can you share how do business schools view towards deferral requests to complete a degree. I had applied to a reputed PhD programme while in the first year of my 2 year master's degree course. Now I have received an admit and am in a dilemma as to how do I ask the phd admissions committee for a deferral. How do schools usually look at deferral requests. Also would they be willing to consider it knowing well enough that I should have applied in my second year if I was inclined to finish my degree first. Any tip as to how do I approach this topic would be helpful. Thanks in advance
  6. Hi all ! This is my first post on the forum and would appreciate your candid replies. I was wondering what is the general reputation of Asian and particularly Hong Kong schools in terms of PhD student training and placements. During my research I have noticed that their placements have typically been in mainland china and Hong Kong and scarcely in Europe and USA. Also if anyone can share what is the perception of the rigour and training provided at HKUST and the quality of its professors in academic circles and is it even possible to seek USA job placements after completing PhD at HKUST. Also if anyone is familiar with Asian PhD programmes typically how flexible and supportive are they vis-a-vis US programmes and departments. I would appreciate any input as not much info on HKUST PhD programmes is available online. Thanks in advance! cheers
