Hi guys!
I am one of those TMers who are wait-listed for U Michigan and invited to their preview day (March 22). Attending the preview day would have been a no-brainer if I were a US resident, but I'm not. I'm also planning on attending another visit day in April (my top choice, again wait-listed :( ) so two round-trip flights are quite a stretch on my budget. So far I have a fellowship offer from Wisconsin-Madison but I'm not sure whether Michigan is a better program than UWM such that I should forgo the fellowship and attend the fly-outs hoping to be admitted off the wait list. My research interests lies in empirical IO, labor, education, public economics.. flexible within the field of applied micro but with a bent toward IO. Also I strongly prefer departments where students and faculty are collaborative and supportive... which makes things even more difficult since Michigan seems to fit into both criteria!
What do you guys think? Is cashing out an extra $2000 for a flight to Detroit worth it? I would really appreciate your thoughts and wisdom on this.
