  1. Hi, Game Theory is very broad and widely used in Operations Management (OM) /Decision Science (DS), Marketing, Finance and in a host of other areas. So firstly, you have to select an area of interest. I would suggest you to read research papers and see what excites you the most and then find out professors who work on similar topics in your target schools. If you want to delve into the theoretical side of game theory you can perhaps start by looking at DS programs. Secondly, the degree from IIMA would help you but you need to have a good reason for wanting to shift to academia after 5 years - perhaps some aspect of your work interested you and you want to research on that? A lot of people in OM/DS and Marketing have engineering undergrads so that is perfectly fine. Your GPA 5 years ago should not matter a lot as long as you do well in GRE/GMAT - but maybe others can weigh in on that. Hope that helps!
  2. Sounds good! Just make sure you add a few T10 and T15 programs, where you find professors with similar interests, to your list. It is always better to apply widely than to wonder what if...
  3. You seem to have a very good profile. Are your degrees in Industrial Engineering? If that is so, and/or if your thesis is in a related topic, I would say you are quite competitive and should apply to at least a few top schools. What are your specific research interests? "Operations management" and "decision science" sound very broad.
  4. I have offers from two of these schools and have been wait listed at the third. My research interest is in supply chain management and all these schools have faculty I would like to work with. I am having a difficult time in choosing one based on rankings and recent placement records. Could you please share your thoughts and perspectives? Thanks!
  5. Hi, I am looking into the Masters programs in Canadian B Schools for OM/OR and the programs in Queen's and Sauder School (UBC) seem to stand out. I would like to know how competitive these programs are (the placement into phd programs in Queen's is quite good) ? Also how keen are these programs on admitting foreign (Non US) applicants ? Any other suggestions on good Masters program in OM/OR in US/Canada where receiving some financial assistance is a real possibility? Thanks a lot!
  6. @HorsesInVA: I am interested in supply chain management specifically revenue management, inventory management, effects of data sharing within a supply chain.
  7. Hi! I am planning to apply for a phd in OM in the next academic cycle. Here is my profile. Undergraduate: IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) GPA: 8.7/10 GRE: not yet taken Math Courses: Have taken courses in Calculus and Prob/Stats but haven't studied Linear Algebra or Real Analysis in great detail. Research Experience: 2 papers in Intl' Conferences, 1 paper submitted in an Intl' OM Journal. LORs: Hoping to get a solid recommendation from my ug thesis adviser and positive ones from other faculty members. A few quick questions: Can you please recommend some programs I should apply to? Do I stand any fighting chance in a T10 program in a B School (as per UTD rankings) without a MS? Getting a MS without any financial assistance would be a bit difficult for me. Is it absolutely essential for getting admitted to a good program? I have read about the disadvantages of getting a phd in Industrial Engineering when compared to a phd from a B School while browsing through the older posts here. Can I afford to limit myself only to B School programs with this profile? Thanks for any suggestions and advices!!!
