  1. argment in that case the angle should be specified as 120....because....simply stating slope is the change in y axis over x axis....and as you specified it can go in either direction...but that is specified by the angle....thats why the range of slope is from -infinity to +infinity....for angle 270 and 90 respectively.
  2. Line L intersects with x, and y axis, what is the value of it slope? 1 The angle between line L and x axis is known. 2 The angle between line L and y axis is known.. I think the ans should be D....line has two types of parameterizations. i y = mx + c ii p = xcos(a) + ysin(a) in second one p is length of perpendicular drawn from origin to line and a is the angle that p makes with x-axis.....and the slope could be found using m = -1/tan(a) now we are given two angles....we can compute independently from both equations the value of a....and thus m. any comments.
  3. There are staff members in a certain company, 80% of them received bonuses, some of them received vacations last year. How many people neither received bonuses nor received vacations?1 within the staff memebers who did not receive bonus, 70% of them did not received vacations either. 2 within the staff members who received vacations, 30% of them received bonuses as well To me the ans is A. My explaination is 80% received bonuses. remaining is 20% who did not receive bonus...70% of 20% is ...14% did not receive vacation as well...thus the ans would be 14 % [Assuming the question asks for % and not how many]... however 2 does not give anything.
  4. If R is the remainder of ( A+B) / 8 , what is the value of R? (1) A+2 can be divided by 11 (2) B-35 can be divided by 11 My ans. is E.
  5. A=(3^n)*(p^2). how many factors does A has? 1 n=4 2 p=7 To me the answer is C. plz confirm...is there any catch?
  6. A=117*k what is the largest prime factor of A? 1) k is prime factor of units 2) k is a integer Actually I don't get the question. What is asked?
  7. 1^2+2^2+3^2+.............10^2 i think the answer is 378.........but is there some simple way of solving such a question?
  8. What is the area of the polygon?file:///C:/GMAT/vip/september/mathjj_files/2004-09-24_195837_2.jpg (1)RQ=6 ,PQ=8 (2)PR=10 I think the answer is E........plz confirm.
  9. G is the common factor of K+7 and n, and n and k are positive integers, What is the value of G 1 n=9753 2 n=k+6 i think the answer is B....because that means the difference b/w k+7....and k+6....is always 1. Thus the common factor is always 1.
  10. A set includes following number: 2, 4, 8 ,10 ,12, and X?what is the value of x? (1) median and mean of the set is the same (2) x 16 I think the answer is A. In statement (1), only 6 would fit.
  11. N is positive integer?ê?k=n(n+1)(n+2), can k be divided evenly by 12?ê? (1)n(n+2) is even number (2)n+1 is odd number my ans D.........plz confirm
  12. f(x) = x^2 + bx+b , b is constant, f© = 0 , c 1) b(b-4) = 0 2) b>0 my ans a
  13. The points A,B, and C are in the coordinate system, B (1,2),C(4,3), A is concealed. A,B,C constitute a triangle?ê?what is the coordinates of A?(1)The distance from A to B is 2 (2) The distance from A to C is 3 it seems to me that the answer is E....but can not confirm.... say the coord of A be (x,y) then (1) => (x-1)^2 + (y-2)^2 = 4.... and same type of equation for (2)....when I solve the two equations.... I get...3x + y = 7........and there are many points x,y that satisfy this equation.
  14. 10(x/x+y)+20(y/x+y)=k, x, y are integers and x 12 10 15 18 30 my answer is 18.........plz confirm
  15. If t, t/4 and t/8 are all positive integers between 1 and 1000 inclusive, how many values could be there for t (250, 200, 199, 50, 51) my answer is coming to be 125....because from 1........1000 there are 125 multiples of 8............. t.........t/4...............t/8 8.........2.................1 16.......3..................2 . . 125..........................1000 but 125 is not in the answer list?
  16. Consider an extension to the problem....i.e. had x = 8y + 24...............then what would have been the answer....I want to know that how we can make sure that 12 is GCD in 2....is it because x - 8y = 12....therefore the GCD can not be greater than 12....so following the same reasoning can we infer that x - 8y = 24.....therefore GCD can not be greater than 24....is this some Rule?
  17. . If x and y are positive integers such that x=8y+12, what is the greatest common divisor of x and y? 1) x=12u, where u is an integer. 2) y=12z, where z is an integer. my answer is B...because in B...GCD comes to be 12 plz confirm
  18. The average (arithmetic mean) of the accessed values of W houses is $12000; the average of the accessed values of Z is $21000, what is the average of the value of the W+Z houses? (1) W+Z=24 (2) W=2Z my ans B. plz confirm....[in B..both w and z will be eiliminated...so we will get some value]
  19. Quadrilateral ABCD inscribes in a circle, Radius is 5, can AB+CD be determine? 1) AD=6,BC=8 2) AC pass center of the circle combining1 and 2 tells us that two rt. angles are there....whose two sides are given and third one can be computed.... right?
  20. A,B,C,I,I five letters, if 2 I must be separated by another letter ?ê?how many permutations there? I think 6.3 = 18 ….see I - I is X ….then X - - are three #....which have 3! = 6 permutations ….but X itself has 3 therefore total = 18 right?
  21. 7 strings, MEAN=68, MEDIAN=84, Longest = 4 * shortest + 14, what is the length scope of the longest string ?
  22. Two people complete a task separately, A needs X hours, B is twice as quicker as A, How long will be taked if two people complete this task together? Ans. 3/4X but my answer is coming X/3... A takes X hrs... B will take X/2 hrs.... therefore together... 1/x + 2/X = 3/X.....therefoer X/3 hrs....plz confirm
  23. A and B are integers, A-B and A/B are even numbers, which of below is odd number absolutely? 1. a/2 2. b/2 3. a+b/2 4. (a+2)/2 5. (b+2)/2 if A- B is Even then A B Even Even Odd Odd and if A/B is even then A B Even Even Even Odd so out of these two...both A and B has to be Even then what is the answer??
  24. remainder same does not necessarily mean x = y... x = 3, y = 11 but the remainder in both cases is 3 if 8 is the divisor
