  1. Thanks for the info. I heard from a friend that MIT might give out offers at a similar time to Harvard and try to coordinate visit days -- do you know if there is any truth to this rumor (and should we start to sweat about MIT now)?
  2. Do you guys think the CPC Central Committee post on GC is real? That's one of my top choices, so I'm very nervous.
  3. Can anybody confirm this? I'm a little skeptical since he/she hasn't posted anything for three years, and this post occurred within a few minutes of the GC one.
  4. Oh that's a fun project -- if you look at regional interest in the US by city, every single city listed has a school with a strong econ program. Google's order of interest: Ithaca (Cornell), New Haven (Yale), Cambridge (Harvard/MIT), Berkeley (Cal), Champaign (UIUC), Ann Arbor (Michigan), Durham (Duke), Providence (Brown), Madison (Wisconsin), Pittsburgh (Pitt/CMU).
  5. Hey common, stanford's one of my top choices -- do you mind PMing me too?
  6. Institution: Caltech Program: PhD Social Science Decision: Accepted Funding: TBA Notification date: 2/7/14 Notified through: Email Posted on GC: Yes Comments: I'm (cautiously) optimistic about the upcoming month.
  7. I don't know if they have already admitted their class, but I received an admissions email Friday night so the gc posts are probably real.
  8. Is there empirical evidence for this? I've heard a professor discuss affirmative action, hypothesizing that racial quotas cause more minorities to be hired for low-ranked positions and not given raises. Of course this isn't equivalent to discrimination, but there have been some psychological studies showing that employers prefer people that "seem white" to those that "seem black" (e.g. Chicago GSB | Capital Ideas). I would conjecture that this result would extend to job security and advancements, and I doubt that the reason that "applicants with white-sounding names are 50 percent more likely to get called for an initial interview than applicants with African-American-sounding names" is entirely due to a comparatively small number of discrimination lawsuits.

  10. Please use the format below, and don't post any comments besides admissions and rejections. Good luck everyone! Institution: Program: Decision: Funding: Notification date: Notified through: Posted on GC (thegradcafe.com): Comments:
  11. I got into Ohio State! They didn't send me an email, but their site says: "Congratulations - you have been offered admission!"
  12. I'm having a similar problem, since I'm hoping I receive a grade tomorrow. Do you know what time the apps for Rochester, UCSD Rady, or Boston U are due?
  13. I'm applying to NW Kellogg (deadline is tomorrow), and I expect to receive my last grade tomorrow -- do you know what time the deadline is? I'm anticipating getting an A, so I'd prefer to submit after I receive the grade.
  14. Okay, I won't mention this. Thanks for the help!
  15. Thanks Fisher -- I'm definitely concerned about metrics, although the rest of my econ grades are good. But do you think I should remark on the grade improvement after freshman year in my application?
