  1. Oops!! This is crazy!! Never heard of such a case myself (although that's not much to go by :P). On a lighter note, for a Stan PhD fellowship, you gotta be overqualified. :D
  2. Aha, congratulations from Dingus, mmtillu, tans, gforce and Mindcraft! This, coupled with India's sensational batting display today makes my day. Thanks, all of you. @the-one-and-the-only-Dingus: (* blush blush*) @mmtillu: thanks for the comments, buddy. i am inclined more towards unc. @tans: Treat promised. when and where? @gforce: you've also some bumper admits, man. though, god knows why you are dumping purdue. @Mindcraft: :) :)
  3. thanks gstergia, florian, turing and skremon :) @turing: yes, i am getting full assistantship from unc also. @turing and skremon: My area of interest is broadly Distributed computing and peer-to-peer systems.
  4. Err... me? With you over there at Chapel Hill, Utah is suddenly looking very attractive :P :D Okay, seriously, what do the gurus here say? How do the two schools compare?
  5. Dear friends, I received an email from Utah advising me to check my application status. I found there a message saying I have been admitted with TA ship giving me $15k/year. Since I have already an admit from UNC-CHapel Hill, I have decided to decline this offer. I hope this decision is wise. :hmm: Thanks for your support
  6. Me too going to UNC-CH. MS in CS. Will meet ya, Florian. :)
  7. Hi Meraj, long time back (end of Jan) I received an admit from UNC-CH. Start of March, a friend received an admit from UMass,Amherst. Both in MS (CS). Hold onto your horses, however. Good news might be just round the corner. :)
  8. Actually, I didn't get a formal offer from Columbia in the first place. The email said: "Regarding the status of your application to the M.S. program in Computer Science at Columbia University, we are pleased to inform you that your application has been reviewed by the department and recommended for admission. Please note that you have not yet been officially admitted to the program, however. Your application will now be reviewed by the School of Engineering and Applied Science, and checked for completeness. Should your application be officially accepted, you will be notified via both email and mail shortly. If your application is found to be incomplete, you will be notified accordingly so that you can rectify any discrepancies." It would seem a bit cheeky if I reject them before they accept me :D
  9. Yeah. I have almost finally decided to go for UNC-CHapel Hill. Florian, coming? :)
  10. Er.. will a simple "Congrats!" do? :P Great analysis, btw!
  11. Thanks. :) So far I have not come across anybody who got an admit to the PhD progam of the CS department at Rice....
  12. Thanks tans. Did this guy apply to the CS department? I know that admission process at Rice is very department-centric and CS and Elec are in different departments there, so they may have announced their decisions separately. If yes, then can you tell me about his profile briefly. Also, how did he receive the decision (by email or snail-mail)? Don't bother if its too much trouble. :)
  13. Hey guys, I wrote an email to Rice to enquire about the status of my application, and they said: They didn't even take the trouble to inform the rejected candidates that a decision has been taken. This is all the more disappointing since on Jan 20, I had received an email from Rice saying Therefore I was waiting to hear from them before I committed to anybody. But they just don't bother. Anyway, has anybody got an admit from them? I'd love to look at his/her profile.:grad:
