  1. What Verbal Grail is claiming is that explanations cannot be challenged. Only assumptions can.
  2. So, in the verbal grail book, it stated that the "evidence is a fact so it can never be questioned, thus the answer to a weakener question will never question/negate the evidence." If you look at the attached file from a kaplan MST test, you will see that Kaplan contradicts Verbal Grail as Kaplan states that a correct response would either cite an alternative explanation OR DISCREDIT the EXPLANATION GIVEN IN THE PASSAGE. So now I am confused as to which one to follow. What do you guys think?
  3. I attached a pic of the problem. The answer is D) relationship cannot be determined. I understand this answer and it is actually what I picked, but my 2 methods of doing this problem is contradicting each other. If you use the method of plugging in random #s you'll discover that the answer is D. However, my other method is trying to match A&B. For quantity A: we get (w+z)/(w-z) For B: (z+w)/(z-w)=(w+z)/(z-w) =(w+z)/-(w-z) Divide both A&B by w+z and multiplying by w-z we getL A=1, B= -1 So this would mean that A>B, however this clearly contradicts my other answer and I can't identify why.
  4. Took this on one of Kaplan's MST. Picked C instead of D. The question in my opinion is just retarded. Will we see these sort of questions on the actual test?
  5. Did you find the SE and TC, especially SE to be extremely easy? Usually the answer is obvious and you don't need have to know the meaning of the actual answers. The sentence structure was not very difficult to decipher as well. I don't think this is representative of the actual test.
  6. So it seems like Manhattan's text completion and sentence equivalence sections are not highly regarded due to the use of obscure words rather than sentence structure difficulty. What have you guys heard about their RC sections? Are they pretty good? I'm looking for lots of RC problems to practice.
  7. Make up random *****. Answer is D. set 1: all 100s set 2: all 102s median=102 set 1: 90 90 90 100 100 100 100 set 2: 100 100 102 102 102 104 104 104.... median=100
  8. I see. Thanks, that's definitely good to know. I didn't think the sentence structure in verbal grail was hard either and I, by no means, am strong in verbal. I do think their words are a bit too easy as well. On verbal grail you can easily eliminate all options except for one and the ones you eliminate are pretty obviously wrong, but on some other books I've used (Kaplan, ETS Guide w/e it's called), it seems that your choices usually come down to 2 choices. Where the incorrect answer from the 2 left over is just slightly off. Verbal Grail doesn't seem to do that.
  9. RCs aside, how would you guys compare the difficulty of te practice questions from the two books?i did all the sentence equivalence and text completion questions from verbal grail and almost aced it. There is not a lot of obscure vocab...but it seemed way too easy. On the other hand, I took a look at manhattan questions and the words are much more obscure. I'm even having difficulties with some of the problems under the easy difficulty. I do not notice a huge increase in difficulty in Mahattans easy to hard difficulty levels. Has anyone used both books and have had similar experiences?
  10. Has anyone used RC Practice Utility By Lagnajeet Pradhan? It seems like a bunch of RC questions, although it does lack a couple of GRE question types: select in passage, choose more than one answer
  11. On ETS's Website, they stated that scores are sent 10-15 days after your testing date to the respective universities. I plan on taking the test november 30th, while most and the earliest of my applications are due on the 15th of December. According to the range they gave, November 30th should still be a safe date to take the test. Have you guys had or heard of people having delays in having their scores sent? The reason why I want to take it on the 30th is so that I can have thanksgiving break to relax and clear my mind before going in and taking the test. And I excel under pressure. Since I won't have another opportunity to take the test again, I will have put myself under a lot of pressure and know that I must do well as there won't be another chance.
  12. So I've heard reading GRE-level material daily can help improve your reading comprehension score. I have about 2 months till I take the GRE, so I plan on setting aside some time practicing reading GRE-level material. I've seen the NY Times and the Wallstreet Journal suggested as good reading sources. Are all articles from these 2 sources GRE-level or just some? If the latter, where should I go looking for the GRE-level reading documents?
  13. I realized that I really need to dedicate some time to improving reading comprehension. Realistically, I got about 2 months before I take the GRE. Since I got some time, I thought I'd try out the suggestion of reading GRE-level like materials found in the NY Times or the Wall Street Journal. I don't want to pay a subscription though. Do you necessarily have to read the new articles from the Journal or the Times or can you read old ones? I think I can find some of the older ones for free/
  14. Thanks, my main problem is reading actively. I think I've been more of a passive reader. I am trying to use some of the strategies for active reading, but I feel like when I do, I'll end up running out of time on the GRE.
  15. I'm seeing a lot of posts and people advertising the Verbal Grail and yet it has 0 reviews on amazon/any other website. Is this book actually good for verbal or are there a lot of people on this website trying to help the makers sell the book? I'm literally seeing the exact same threads made in the "JUst Finished my GRE section." http://www.www.urch.com/forums/just-finished-my-gre/149099-331-q-168-v-163-my-experience-advice-about-gre.html http://www.www.urch.com/forums/just-finished-my-gre/148165-167-actual-gre-bit-surprised-verbal-score.html http://www.www.urch.com/forums/just-finished-my-gre/148088-337-v-167-q-170-pleasantly-surprised-verbal-score.html http://www.www.urch.com/forums/just-finished-my-gre/148165-167-actual-gre-bit-surprised-verbal-score.html 2 of which by the exact same person, so that raises some suspicion. I'm tempted to buy it, but idk if these people are just making sht up.
