Hi guys,
Just started studying for the GRE test using the official guide to revised GRE 2nd edition.
I am very confident in my quantitative skills and writing capabilities, doing fine and seeing improvement with reading comprehension but i'm stuck at the discrete questions.
I thought my vocabulary was fine until I tried the Guide's questions. for those familiar with the book the set questions are devided into easy, medium and hard.
Easy questions I got 100%, medium 70% and hard barely 50% when I'm aiming for a score of 160+.
Is there really anything I can do to improve my score overtime? I know the correct words to fill in the blanks but I just don't know the meaning of the words presented as options.
For example,
" The government’s implementation of a new code of ethics appeared intended to
shore up the ruling party’s standing with an increasingly _________ electorate at a
time when the party is besieged by charges that it trades favors for campaign "
money.
A aloof
B placid
C restive
D skittish
E tranquil
F vociferous
The words I do know the meaning of are marked, and i'm only 50% correct because one of them happened to be correct.
So for those experienced ones, is there any benefit from studying tables of 1500+ words claimed to have a chance to appear on test day?
Thanks,
Sharon
