  1. Thank you for both of your responses. I actually did not do very well in accounting (3.15 gpa), and I enjoyed my finance classes much more. I know accounting professors are in high demand, but I would much rather get accepted into a finance phd program. The main difference I have seen, correct me if I am wrong, is that accounting research tends to be a little "behind", and somewhat piggybacks off of the leading finance/economics research. As far as my research interests, I would like to focus on corporate finance, asset pricing, and derivatives.
  2. Hello Everyone, So I plan on applying to a PHD program next fall (2015) and would like anyones advice on A. What Score I will need to get on the GMAT to be competitive at top 75 schools B. If I will need a Masters to get into a decent program C. What GPAs can I emphasize on my application (Business/Finance GPAs much higher) B.B.A Accounting/Finance/Business Pre-Law Accumulative GPA- 3.27 (Spanish and Science courses really hurt!) Business GPA- 3.51 (includes Accounting/Finance/Business-Law/Economics/Management/Marketing/etc) Finance GPA- 3.89 Math Background- Only Calculus, but am going to take Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations before applying Research Experience- Worked with an Accounting Professor on a paper dealing with Real Earnings Management Work Experience- Internal Auditor at PNC Financial Services CPA certified
  3. phdhope- thank you for your post, those are great options. I actually had South Carolina and Alabama on my list, but Georgia and UMass are definitely getting added! Gatorguy- thank you for your post as well, very insightful. In my previous post I did mention that I would like to get into behavioral (even though thats not where my experience is at), so South Carolina and UMass could be good fits. As far as Georgia goes I will definitely take that into consideration since my scores arent all that great. I had Kentucky on my list, but did not look into any of the other schools you mentioned so thank you for those suggestions!
  4. Thank you both for replying, it is much appreciated! I only have minimal research experience (Archival), but Behavioral seems very interesting. I like the idea of having subjects and manipulating variables to see the results. Auditing and Financial would be my favorite topic areas, anything but tax :encouragement:. YaSvoboden- I took calculus 1 and two different statistics classes. Not sure if being a finance major helps at all with the math aspect? If either of you have any suggestions as far as schools go I would really appreciate it. Thanks again!
  5. Hello everyone, I just wanted to get some thoughts on my current profile before applying to Phd programs. Undergraduate Degree(s): Accounting/Finance/Business Pre-Law Acc GPA: 3.35 Business GPA: 3.80 - Small amount of Archival Research during Undergrad Was on the executive board for a business fraternity and president of a booster club (Not sure if this is at all relevant) CPA Certified 2 years work experience as an Internal Auditor 700 GMAT 3 letters of recommendation: one from the prior director of accounting at my university, one from the current director of accounting, and one from the professor I did research with. When talking to the professor I did research with, she seemed to think my current profile would be good enough to get into a top 75 phd program. I wasnt so sure since nothing really stands out about the application, so I wanted to get some other opinions. I am aiming for a top 75 or top 50 program, nothing too fancy. Any recommendations on how to improve my chances, or what universities to apply to would be much appreciated. Thank you all in advance, I appreciate your time.
