  1. Thank you so much.I am going to apply for the same.
  2. I am going to fill up Indian statistical Institute's MSQE application. But I have to select between its Delhi and Kolkata centers. I want to have Ph.D. in economics from some top US university. Which is better? Delhi center or Kolkata? Some say Kolkata is better for placement, but is Delhi better for Ph.D. preperations as Rankings: All Economics and Within Country and State Rankings at IDEAS: India say? Please reply quickly as I have to fill application form.
  3. Thank you, both! I downloaded J-R e-book and have fall in love with it :)
  4. Hi friends, I want to self-learn some more advanced micro. I have read up now Nicholson-Snyder's Microeconomic Theory: Basic Principles and Extensions. I am familiar with mathematics at the level of Simon and Blume's Mathematics for Economists. I am suggested Gravelle-Rees or Jehle-Reny.In my country, other texts are noy easily available. Now, many amazon reviews say Gravelle-Rees is poorly written and leaves many concepts unexplained, I think it might be wastage of money.(Please correct me if I am wrong.) But for Jehle-Reny's Advanced Microeconomics, I listen good words only. Can I self-study and completely understand Jehle-Reny with the base of Nicholson-Snyder and Simon and Blume?(Nicholson-Snyder and Simon and Blume are also self-studied by me.) I will be obliged with your suggestions, and I will buy it according to your advice.Thank you.
  5. I am not from an English-nation. I studied in non-English medium so feeling very nervous about my performance in my verbal GRE. I often mistake in easiest words. I want to know if I can perform very good in Quant and poor-to-average in verbal, will it hurt my profile?(I want to enter good US Ph.D.)
  6. tm_member, Namaste. I am posting this because I was not allowed to ask one of my doubt at urch ph.d. forum. I am self-learning economics to enter in good masters program. So, I have many doubts relating to maths, stats, economics and econometrics time to time. I ask my doubts related to maths and stats at math.stackexchange.com and stats.stackexchange.com and get really impressive reply. But I can't find any forum where I can ask my economics doubt. I asked one at EJMR and got abusive words as well as advice to go to testmagic. So I asked my other doubt here. If you inform me any question-answer website for economics questions, where I can post my doubt and get answers, I will be obliged.
  7. The average monthly flow out of unemployment pool of 7.0 million people each month is 3.1 million. Put another way, the proportion of unemployed leaving unemployment equals 3.1/7.0 or about 44% each month. Put yet another way, the average duration of unemployment -the average length of time people spend unemployed - is between 2 and 3 months. Now, I can't understand how the duration of unemployment is derived and claimed to be 2−3 months. (This question is from Blanchard's Macroeconomics, 4th ed.)
  8. Thanks a lot, Sir. I will prepare hard to enter DSE and ISI (as well as JNU). Yes, I have backup option of MBA. Will you please suggest certain other Masters in my reach(as I am B.Com.) out of India? I will be obliged.
  9. I did Bachelors of Commerce from an Indian University. I want to do Ph.D. in economics. I want to know if I take masters from Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi School of Economics or JNU, will it help me to get in top 20 Ph.D. program? Or can you suggest any other masters?(I am not eligible for Oxford/Cambridge/LSE). Any help and recommendations will be very helpful.
  10. Friends, I want to be in top Ph. D. program in economics, and I am going to take MA economics from one of the top institutes in the country for the same. Meanwhile, I have one year's time, and i want to take math courses such as Real analysis, Linear algebra etc.(I have not taken any formal calculus courses but have good foundations for it.) But, as i took commerce courses in my high school as well as undergrad, I am not allowed by any university to enroll for any math course.(They tell that math is just for science-siders.) I am really serious about my studies and not getting any opportunity for math makes me frustrated. please consider my problem and please give a solution.
