  1. Ok I'll also check out Keshwani
  2. Thanks, I'll check out Magoosh and the Manhattan book
  3. i.e. Would getting these suffice?- GREĀ® Premier 2015 with 6 Practice Tests: Book + DVD + Online + Mobile (Kaplan Test Prep): Kaplan: 9781618656230: Amazon.com: Books http://www.amazon.com/Cracking-Practice-Graduate-School-Preparation/dp/080412468X/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1431702777&sr=1-3&keywords=gre
  4. Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has any up to date links or suggests any study guides in order to prepare for the quantitative GRE which I will take at the end of the summer. Thanks
  5. An interesting article from The Economist Magazine. I'm curious of everyone's thoughts: The productivity of PhDs: Lazy graduate students? | The Economist
  6. I am taking a seven week proof based course this summer called into to abstract mathematics (bridges the gap between calculus and proofs) and am using this book: Reading, Writing, and Proving: A Closer Look at Mathematics by Ulrich Daepp edition #2. I have never taken a proof based course, but will appreciate some tips on how to go about learning how to do proofs. Topics we will cover: problem solving, logic, sets, relations, functions, modular arithmetic, induction and pigeonhole principle, sequences, and cardinality.
  7. Lucky you. I can't get any RA position from any department or institution... I think you would be fine for either. If you know your researcher has connection to schools you want to attend then choose the department.
  8. Where is the link to what their profile looks like? I mean grades, experiences, etc...
  9. Thanks guys/gals! The problem is not me being at a small school, there just isn't much money for research. I think I need to be more direct. I have one last question, should I figure out who I should write my senior thesis with first then look for an RA next fall or visa versa. I don't want a conflict of interest or someone to think I can't do independent study and RA.
  10. Thanks for the reply, but that's too bad for me. The econometric classes were not being offered due to lack of enrollment combined with faculty hiring that were delayed for a whole year. I could take it next fall, but by then its too late. The reason that I want a job is more to see if I am truly interested in a phd rather than grad applications, but I'll try this summer with something economics related. I guess I'm suck in a hard place and time simply isn't on my side.
  11. I cannot find any RA positions for the life of me at or near my university. I've been looking for a whole semester. Is there any way to find undergrad RA jobs in economics or something related? This excludes the obvious such as the Feds, World Bank, etc...
  12. Thanks guys. I think I will learn some matlab in math stats next fall (or spring) and this summer look into stata and R
  13. Hi Everyone, This summer and maybe a little over the winter I was hoping to learn a type of coding that would help me out the most obtain a job at the feds (or a full time research assistant) or graduate school in economics. There are so many things to choose from like c++,matlab, mathematica (which I have limited knowledge of), java, pyton, spss (i have limited knowledge of), excel (I have moderate know but forget some things). Any thoughts on what you believe is the most beneficial language/should I expand my limited knowledge? Thanks
  14. It is hard to quantify my natural ability in mathematics because I have not taken much yet. I really have no idea what to except from these classes. I was surprised when yankee said that his teacher tested him on problems done in homework. I haven't see that yet. I just tend to work slower than most. I think my struggle lies in my inexperience with mathematics and poor teachers. I hated calc 1 because my teacher stunk, but calc 2 is far easier. I used to have a problem learning about economics, but now econ classes including game theory are "easy" to me. Has anyone else experience a similar situation of math or econ once being hard, but now it comes easy to them?
  15. Yes this is a semester. I plan to take in this order because I am currently taking calc 2, I think diff equ is just an extension on integration and diff equ. I am also taking a cello class because I minor in music. I also mentioned intermediate macro which is just intermediate macro.
  16. Wow, that's quite impressive. Thanks for the reply.
  17. I don't want to overwhelm myself as I am not a prodigy at math, but I can get As with enough study time. Is is too much to take elementary linear algebra, differential equations, macroeconomic theory, and probability theory in the same semester? Perhaps I could take calc 3 instead of differential equations? What are your thoughts.
