  1. In how many ways can the letters of the word “PROBLEM” be rearranged to make 7 letter words such that none of the letters repeat? A. 7 B. 7C7 C. 77 D. 49 E. None of these Hi, The answer is 7P7 = 7!. There may be a typo in option A. There are 7 letters and none is common, so 'n' objects taken all at a time can be arranged (Permutation) in 7P7 ways = 7!.

  3. I think this can be the best tool to predict. https://www.ets.org/s/gre/flash/bschool/comparison/17302/170/index.html A +/- 20 points variation may be there, however for some it may be high deviation. The best way is to take few GMAT mocks.
  4. A short Cut... Q. If the price of fuel rises by 10%, by what % should one reduce its consumption so that total expenses on fuel remain the same? Step 1: Convert 10% into fraction, which is 1/10. Call it 1/a. Step 2: Add '1' to the denominator of 1/a. It becomes 1/(1+a). For the problem, it is 1/11. Step 3: Convert 1/(1+a)=1/11 fraction into %, it is 9.09%. The consumption should be reduced by 9.09%.
  5. See this.. © The Regent Corporation’s microcomputer can be used in conjunction with higher-priced microcomputers manufactured by other companies. It shows that the Regent microcomputer can complement the higher-priced microcomputers. It is not against the prospects of selling more computers. It does not harm in any way! (E) The independent computer-industry analyst whose assessment was incorporated in the prospectus has used measures of quality that are not universally accepted by the computer-buying public. This puts analyst's assessment of quality into question; There may be a chance that Regent's computers are not up to high quality parameters. Weakens.
  6. 1. 2M+5W---> take 4*3 =12 days to complete the work; 2. 3M+5W---> take 4*2 =8 days to complete the work; (1 man joined and 1/4th of the work was done in 2 days) => 2M+5W---> can do 1/12th work in 1 day------(1) => 3M+5W---> can do 1/8th work in 1 day----(2) Subtracting (2) from (1), we get 1 man can do 1/24th work in 1 day or 1 man takes 24 days to complete the work. It means that to complete the work in 4 days, 24/4=6 men are needed.
  7. Say the consumption per day for eating = x kg./day, so for the first case, Total oil= 50*(11+x) kg.; and for the second case, Total oil= 45*(15+x) kg.. Since 50*(11+x) = 45*(15+x) => x = 25 kg/day; So, the oil will past for 50*[(11+25)/25] = 50*(36/25)=72 days. Option A.
  8. Yes, answer is E. In a banquet, a group eats together, out of which many of them would be knowing each other. Once one of them falls ill, he/she talks to others. If other also fell ill, they point out the source of food-poisoning to banquet food as the common point for them was banquet only. However if the food served in a restaurant to an individual was leftover food and it made him/her ill, the person cannot pin-point that it is that food that caused him/her ill as there are no other source to cross-check the fact.
  9. Though options C & D are too close, option C is the correct answer. Inappropriate interpretation on the basis of comparative risk of fire in private houses vs. apartments is not a flaw in Joe's statement. Since Bill talks about the LAW for apartments, Joe presumes that Bill means a law only for apartments.
  10. I think its D. cultivation of the herb in soil with high concentrations of the metals will, over an extended period, make the soil suitable for plants to which the metals are toxic. One of the premise is:High concentrations of metals are toxic to most other plants. As per option D, over an extended period, the toxic effect of metals ceases to exist as histidine makes the metals INERT; now the detrimental cause for other plants no longer exists and they grow in that very soil. This validates the claim that "the herb’s high histidine production is what allows it to grow in metal-rich soils"
  11. Hi, though the strategy you listed is preliminary (not comprehensive), I would suggest that you should reconsider point 4-go by instincts if still unsure, one must not go by instinct. The clever wordplay laid by the test-maker are mostly found in these type of options. If you are unsure of any option, it implies that you have not understood the argument correctly. So either reread or guess and more to next!
  12. This is a GMAT forum and the question posted by you does not belong to the GMAT. Pl. post it elsewhere. These kinds of questions are not asked in the GMAT.

  14. Agree with eventualprof. These questions are asked in GRE-Text completion (May be). This thread should be moved to GRE forum.I think the answer to Q3 should be "vast & wide". Since 'Not only...but also' must be parallel in emotions, and both (a) and (b) describe abt company's excellence hence both words must be positive, so "vast & wide" must be correct.
  15. Thanks Kevin, It was helpful. Need an advice on How to retain the concentration--Reading at a decent pace. If I read at fast pace, I miss finer details and If I do otherwise, I miss broader point. How to make a balance?
  16. Though for practice purposes, OG is the best; it has many passages. However OG does not in a way teach you:Strategies to crack RC. Manhattan GMAT's RC book has discussed many strategies on RC. Its worth seeing. That said, RC is such a subject that is flooded with many strategies. There is no best practice. I suggest you to read the blog of Bunnuel of GMATClub. He has discussed many strategies and book...they are all very subjective.
