  1. Thanks andrew! Just emailed the DGS. For UMD, taking offer will not influence the chance to get fellowship.
  2. Yes. Still on waiting list for 1st yr fellowship, don't know whether I should take offer now or wait. If I take offer now, does it mean that I give up my chance to update to fellowship? Any thoughts?
  3. Just declined PSU. Good luck my friends.
  4. I talked with some current UMD graduate students and confirmed your information. Thanks for sharing.
  5. Hi Guliver, so rebuilding the IF group is their first priority, at this moment? Any plan about strengthening their applied micro group?
  6. Agree that its position near DC helps its students get jobs in WB/IMF (but wonder how much help could it be). And do you think Maryland still has the attractiveness for seniors/stars?
  7. Thanks Tom. Maryland keeps losing seniors for several years. It seems that they are trying hard to rebound. Actually hiring one or two seniors/stars will make the department's some specific area much better, right? I'm just wondering whether Maryland could still attract seniors/stars.
  8. Maryland's placement fluctuates across years. e.g. Last year they lost some seniors in international finance, so the placement is not so good. What do you think are Maryland's comparable institutions, in areas of applied micro?
  9. Hi everyone! What would you say about Maryland's rank, still T20? It seems that they keep hemorrhaging faculty these years. No idea whether Maryland will rebound or not. My interest is applied micro (development/labor/public). Is Maryland a good place for me?
  10. PSU has a strong econometrics group. Actually they've hired several seniors and rising stars in recent years. Their IO is not as strong as their econometrics, but still good. Plus, as far as I know, seniors in PSU are reachable. Check their graduate students' profile and you'll see.
  11. Wisconsin's labor/development guys are old. Personally prefer Maryland. But it depends on how your interest matches with the group.
  12. I sent an email to UCL. They said application still under department review. I applied before Dec.
  13. I guess it's not routine, at least for some programs. My friend and I both received offer from a certain program, he then got an email as you described. But I didn't.
  14. Also, I'm wondering if my advisor leaves for another university, could he still be my advisor?
