  1. Does anybody has them? Listening is one of weakest areas and need to practice a lot. I think some websites in China used to have them some years ago but the links are not working anymore. I do not mind listening to tests 10 years or more old, I just need to practice real test questions. And it would be even better if transcripts were available but if not, it is still good if I you can send links to files I can play in my laptop (MP3 or otherwise). Thanks a lot and good luck in your preparation!
  2. My verbal score seems suspicious given that I was certain I was answering most of the questions correctly. The words that I had to choose from were familiar (from my word list) except for 2 questions and was always able to narrow the choices down to two possible answers and then further analyzed the nuances between the terms. Same for the reading sections, those passages are easier than the ones in he TOEFL! I know I cannot do anything about it but still, I feel frustrated with my verbal score (glad I got that math score though). AWA went okay-ish as far as I know and do not know if that counts for much in the admission process anyways. It crossed my mind to give it another try in December but I am not sure if it would be worth it. Thanks. PS: Please, anyone else who took the test recently, especially today, did you have the same awkward feeling those verbal scores do not reflect what you actually experienced during the test?
  3. Could someone solve these and explain, please? A k-number is a positive integer with the special property that 3 yimes its units' digit is equal to 2 times its tens' digit. 1) The number of K-numbers between 10 and 99 2) 3 Answer= equal - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - If (1/2^m) + (1/2^m) = 1/2^x, then x expressed in terms of m is 1) m/2 2) m-1 3)m+1 4)2m 5)m^2 Answer = 2
  4. Wow! Well done Annabel. I am not sure if you already answered this somewhere else but how relevant do you think are the GRE/ETS materials for the actual test? are the math problems similarly difficult as those offered in those prep materials? Thanks.
  5. Hi, I will be taking the test on the 18th of October. I have previously taken the test twice (in 2003 and 2005). Now, I noticed ETS has made some changes to the test and was wondering if anyone in this forum knows whether the levels of difficulty for the quantitative/math section are higher, or if the type of questions are the same as before. Also, did the expectations for the analysis of an issue/argument changed? Or else, can someone provide some insights as to whether the materials and sample questions in the GRE/ETS website are a good representation of the type of problems/topics I will encounter on my actual test? The prep materials for the math section seem a bit too easy, in my opinion, so if someone knows of some materials that offer a bit more challenging problems (useful for the GRE test, of course) I would appreciate you sharing the links or the titles if referring to books. Thanks,
  6. Hi, I found this problem in a GRE prep book and since they give only the answers (but not the explanation of ho to solve it) I decided to post this in this forum and see if any of you guys have a method that can be used to tackle this type of question. n = 7 (19*3):hmm: A) The number of distinct positive factors of n B) 10 Answer is B Thanks in advance.
  7. Thanks for your reply! Would you recommend a website or something I can find on the internet (or download it) besides TestMagic that will wrap all possible topics on Statistics and probability that will appear in the real GRE test? I would appreciate your help greatly.
  8. Thanks! So I will diversify my prep materials and use other sources as you mentioned. I agree with you that the verbal part is excellent in the Big Book. I was more concerned on the Quant part since the problems do not seem to have the same degree of difficulty as in the real test.
  9. Hi, I was wondering whether you fellows know if studying the GRE Big Book is still a good idea these days. A year ago I took the test and encountered some questions on topics (i.e., standard deviation and stuff like that) that I see now are not covered by the BB. I would not like to start studying the Big Book if it does not covered the whole range of topics that the GRE encompass now. Please, anyone shed some light on this… Thanks

  11. Thank You all! I guess I will have to look at doing a Master in Economics first and then see if I can pursue the PhD.
  12. I am considering sending an application to the PhD in Economics at a good university in the US at this time or not so that I can do research in the Urban Economics field I majored in Architecture while in college and am about to finish a MS in Urban and Regional Planning. Now then, my interests are all related to do a PhD in Economics and specialize in Urban Economics. However, my biggest fears are those concerned with my background. I have not taken Economics courses at all and took a couple of calculus courses and one basic statistics course while in college. I am aware that courses in those subjects are the foundation for advance studies such as those I want to become engaged in. I have also heard, however, that some of the admitted students do not have degrees in economics nor in mathematics. What do you consider to be the basic courses/classes one PhD student should have at the start of the program in order to do OK? Do you think I should consider doing a Master in Economics first? Thanks. I look forward to your replying to my questions.
  13. Mr Hudson (is this your real lastname? I don't think so) I suppose you are indian as well (I assumed this for the way you write you use a lot of u r instead of writing full words). Anyways, you should mind your language, do not tell me to wash my mind, wash your first. You all get too hotheaded and now I am offended and request from you an apology. I never used offensive language when I addressed that guy. He already knew what is a good or a bad TOEFL score, so why was he asking 'is this good or bad score'? It was my opinion, a legimitate and valid as anyone else's. I do have some Indian friends indeed and yes, they all boast and just try to look down on other people.
  14. Thanks Guys! I will take your advice and will start looking at some MBA programs with Finance specializations. I was thinking that an MBA would only give one a superficial knowledge of finance but from your comments it seems this is not the case. Again, thanks.
  15. mchakrain, Then you mean that I being an architect with 4 years of experience (in architecture, obviously) and 30 years age could just switch to a career in Finance even if I do not have strong math skills or related experience whatsoever? And would you recommend an MBA with focus on Finance or a Master in Finance? Please, shed some light on this, I am trying to take hard decisions. My salary is rather low (less than 30,000USD a year). Thanks.
