  1. Yes, I will! Thank you very, very much for your help. :)
  2. I just got an my first admission email! Yes it is the OSU, it is not a hoax. One question: if there is no mention of funding on your admission email, does that mean it is a no funding admission? I don't see anything nor any mention of it in the email and my account. Just says turn in passport scan, affidavit, and financial statement. (And apparently your status is still "pending" without these documents. I would not have been sure myself without seeing the thread.) Does anybody know? Thank you very much.
  3. Hello all, I plan to apply for PhD in business economics (or anything equivalent) in the States and in the UK. I would be most grateful for any advice on choosing schools to apply to. Thank you very much in advance! Undergrad: B.A. Economics & Sociology (best institution in my country; in Asia; cum laude) Overall GPA: 3.7, Econ GPA: 3.6 Master's: Currently enrolled in a master's program in Economics, 1st semester GPA 3.5. TOEFL: 117 GRE: V167 (97%) Q170 (98%) AW 5.0 (93%) (best AW score is 5.5 (98%) so far.) Courses Taken: Math dept: Calculus I (A) Calculus II (A) Linear Algebra (A-) Elementary Analysis (A+) Real Variables (B. Yikes. Reason for my bad master's GPA) Undergrad Econ: Micro (A) Macro (B+). Labor Economics (B) Population Economics (A-) Economic Statistics (A-) Econometrics (A-) Industrial Organization (A) Contract Theory (A+) Grad Econ: Intermediate Economic Statistics (A-) Topics in Corporate Organizations (A+) Studies in Economic Systems (A+). Only two courses in Calculus are offered in my undergrad university. I have yet to take differential equations. No business administration related courses and no full-time working experience. Research Experience: 1 conference paper in applied microeconomics; topic is about firm boundaries. Advisor retained my from publishing it, saying that some schools want a "tabular rasa" to work with. Two years of research assistance at a behavioral/experimental economics project, and a year at a corporate performance related project. 6-months at a field project in applied micro. Letters of Recommendation: All three letters are expected to be very solid for research potential, and all come from the economics department. Areas of interest: Organizational economics, a fairly new and a minor field. SOP will hence be very, very specific, which I guess could be both a strength and a threat. Others MATLAB, Stata, Mathematica, LaTeX, ... I apply to econ PhDs as well you see (IO and experimental research, with similar interests in topic), and it hasn't been long since turning my attention to business PhDs. Forgive me if I have left out any crucial details. I can already see that there doesn't seem to be many schools that I can apply to. Canadian schools are excellent in fit but only accept students equipped with a master's degree, so I am not eligible. I do want to apply widely but don't know where to turn to - I have no idea how my profile would be evaluated. Could you give me some ideas? Thank you very, very much.
  4. Dear all, this is my first GMAT thread. I'm trying to register for a GMAT test for the first time, and this is the message that I get: Service Unavailable Standard maintenance is being performed on the site. The service you requested is unavailable at this time. Please return in a few hours to attempt to access the desired service. Does anybody know how long these maintenance periods usually last? Thank you! [h=2][/h]
  5. Thanks for this thread. Something that I needed. The last thread is very true...
  6. Well, all my time and effort have been diverted to analysis all this while. So I don't know how I will actually perform in grad micro. I guess this boils down to whether I should forsake the sunk costs for analysis...
  7. MWG. Yes of course, but the thing is while I have to wait another year if I am to take analysis, grad micro I can take next semester as well. No explicit requirements on when I should have it on my transcript. Of course, you could say that this is not a wise move. I took grad econ stats as an undergrad and may apply for a program without waiting to finish the MA. So I am still pondering...
  8. Hello people. I am a masters student taking grad micro and undergrad real analysis (using Royden's real analysis, essentially measure theory). The thing is I was overconfident - I spent most of my resources for real analysis but I did really badly on the first of the three exams. I think I will get around B, A- at best if I work really really hard, and if worst a B-. I haven't really invested much in grad micro so I dunno where I'd end up with that. Could be around A-... I am planning to cancel either of these two classes. Any advice? I have to decide really soon. I have an A+ on Mathematical Analysis (used Marsden) and a low undergrad GPA (3.5/4). My aims are for decent programs for PhD if I can.
  9. Sorry, I re-posted this thread at PhD in Economics. Looked like this is the wrong place to ask my question.
