  1. Help you with what Diana99? Please b specific if you really need to be helped?
  2. I do believe the quality of the papers will have to be carefully monitored. And from my experience as the RS yes its tough to pass comps in one year - though there is nothing wrong in trying it would be at best grueling. When you say your friend Had audited 2 DS's, how was that done?
  3. Dr Tax, I am looking at Strategy or HR - OB not decided if its in micro or macro Meanwhile Yes I am an MBA And no I don't have econ or stat
  4. Dr Tax Congrats ! Europe I did look to. But Not Australia. Is it good and if so can I get jobs elsewhere if I complete my degree there?
  5. Thank you Daffodil. I believe may be I should talk to some as you suggested. Do you have any suggestions on schools in US which I would benefit by talking to?
  6. Do any of you know of any programs that are for 3 year duration? I got in to a RA ship last year. while I still do not have any publication , I do have 3 papers which are being worked on with support from my faculty. Given the age issue I have, I wonder if I should plan on continuing for the next four years which might be 5 too or should I just look for a there year program and try to get in ?
  7. Guys Just one question - what if we have low grades or fail for something? Are we out of the program or d we get a chance to make it up?
  8. Last dates to submit applications are looking bad as am still not sure of the SOPs.......wrote 6 none am happy with. Should it be a story? Or a professional cap on experiences nd aims? Or an explanation on my plans and goals? Or all of these ?
  9. WOW welcome prospect! Nice to see someone on my boat. I believe with a good GRE we will be good to go. All the best
  10. Hi Aspirant, Your post intrigued cause of same age and subject interest. I too have to re-do GRE and am looking to apply for specific OB areas. My previous inquiry here too came up with the following conclusions - 1. Age is a factor so as XanthusAres suggests we need to weed out the schools who have the age criteria in fore - not visible but subtly glaring 2. GRE -is a factor and some schools insist on GRE than GMAT for OB please check those I too was looking at Europe but if you are looking at justUS as home then, you would want to concentrate on that. While INSEAD - France have a okay standing in US rest of the B schools from Europe is not much talked of. Research exp is another factor. It gives the application a lift that nothing else otherwise can give All the best
  11. sb29, its Worrisome but anymore time wasted thinking won't help much. Lets see where this goes... action time !
  12. THank you.SB29 - I was looking at IBS for just research purpose - RA not the PhD. But yeah, they are not much heard of now. GreForStudy - it used to be known as ICFAI Business school and later as IBS and I believe older than ISB but not sure. I am not sure of their rating anyhow.
  13. How is IBS Hyd - India rated for PhD?
  14. Indus - I am looking to be globally mobile. But IIM FPM now that you have mentioned looks interesting. RA in ISB in OB is not available. IIM I have not checked yet. Would there be anywhere else out of India I can try that without much heart break and some hard work?
  15. XanthusARES - - Yes require PhD to do what I want to do fully And yes my mentors agree Applying widely - I plan to do that but want o armed with necessary info than going blind And hope to get that PhD and live it ! Thank you so much !
  16. GC I looked at ISB but they do not have anything in RA in OB and even hen I need new grads or just 2-3 years experience not more than that
  17. Thank you very much for the support. Mindrew- I love to train and teach. That said my reason for PhD is - its something I wanted to do and need to do for myself. And I love getting in to stuff, picking it apart finding new ways and means and ends. Love to get to new ideas. I am not sure if that's fire enough to do grueling exercise for 4-5 years but yes those are my reasons. Well if in the process I can do teaching and earn a life, then its wonderful! As for my OB prof - can't even find her. I tried looking but seems she had left long time back and no one seems to have any idea! I am at loss as to what to do now? And yes I am aware PhD is about research. Just wondering - would business consulting research be useful here? .
  18. Thank you so much for the positive reply! It does help a lot to hear even one positive word when one is so much in confusion.
  19. Hi OB enthusiasts - I have finally decided to take the crunch and pick up my pen for PhD after 15 years of work experience and on wrong side of 35 but right side of 40 for another year?. I am yet to attempt my GRE. Planning for Sept Now - I have an MBA from an Indian university Worked as - HR and a trainer Have - set up 3 organizations - 2 as a consultant and one as an entrepreneur Worked internationally - ME, Europe (Finland) I might not have RL from my prof as they might not be there with the same school anymore Or I might have one/ two letters from my graduation time ( not MBA but BA (English literature) time) But rest / recent would be from my managers/ immediate supervisor / client GPAs have been average always Why PhD now? - My plan for life was always to end in teaching as I am what I am now due to my professors at my Grad school. So. Given my age and experience do you believe I will be a welcome candidate or should I even try? I mean I spend a lot of time on GRE - writing an exam after so many years out is bit difficult. And after all the trouble I take ...you know?
  20. Hi - I am tying for PhD in OB for fall of 2015. Your earlier post on NOVA and then this post combined inspired me to ask - Would a 35 year old with not that great academic results but is an Indian MBA and have about 15 yrs of exp including entrepreneur-ship and international exposure qualify?
  21. Hi I am an MBA from a university in India. I have almost 15 years of experience in different industries and have been an entrepreneur too. I have helped start two organizations and is looking at another one right now. Meanwhile I have also been a trainer, developed my own content and been a guest lecturer for some college. I have worked in middle east, been consultant for some European startup and so on. Now at the wrong side of 35 I am looking to academics which I find very interesting and research which I find very riveting for me. I decided to do PhD as is required and find that I have look at GMAT/GRE. That a bit daunting. I thought I will look at some help and found that my age too will be an issue. Please can you help me with some information on this? I am a bit worried. I have a family with a toddler. I understand for research US is best, but I also found some colleges in Europe like - INSEAD, Paris Tech, and CBS of course mentioned as very good too. I need a funded program as I need to look at family. Also a place where if it fits I can move to in future I was looking at OB - culture in particular. My educational back ground BA in English literature - 60% MBA in HR and Marketing - 60% Work exp - Training - HR head/ manager Director/ founder Are some of the titles I have handled I have not done any publications yet Have been Guest lecturer for HR Have trained students and employees I was bought up in Oman in most part of my life When I came to India, though of Indian parentage, I found a lot of unwelcome attention and got a lot of stress being here Hence my interest in cultural amalgamation and aspects there of in corporate/working life. There are indeed some research going on in the field I am aware of. Probably the worst part is I wonder, if at this age its worth the go? But I do so want to move to academics and am all fired up Guess being a woman has a lot to say for that :) Well, Thank you for reading and I hope you can really help me and guide me to achieve my dream Thank you Blacktulip
