  1. Analyze an issue: "The beset way to teach is to praise positive actions and ignore negative ones." Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take. Even though praising positive actions and ignoring negative actions sounds enticing, and maybe even helpful, the overall consequences of ignoring negative actions may have an immense impact on developing minds. Young people need to know the difference between right and wrong, and ignoring negative behaviors will not help guide in distinguishing those differences. There is absolutely nothing wrong with awarding positive behaviors and being generally optimistic, but ignoring negative behaviors could be very damaging to young people. If the consequences of negative actions are not discussed, children may feel the need to do whatever comes to their mind. Throughout grade school educational programs are implemented into the lives of children in order to prevent negative behaviors and actions from occurring. The slogan “saying no to drugs” is persistently repeated to ensure that children know the difference between right and wrong. These educational programs are very beneficial in edifying children’s behaviors. Another very problematic issue with ignoring negative actions is that naïve children may want to explore out of curiosity. If they see negative activities going on outside of school, children may want to participate, considering they do not know the difference between good and bad. To young children these harmful activities may seem positive, especially if they do not have a clear distinction between what is positive versus what is negative. The ability to distinguish between right and wrong will not come if the wrong is ignored. Praising positive actions can of course lead to more positive actions, knowing there is an incentive involved, therefore it can be advantageous. Not discussing the negative behaviors may possibly prevent negative actions from occurring altogether, but there is a slight risk with the developing minds, considering their naïve nature. In conclusion, negative behaviors and actions should always be discussed. When positive actions are praised and negative actions come with consequences, people strive to better themselves in order for the positive actions to outdo the negative ones. Discussing positive versus negative actions is also advantageous for comprehensible distinctions. Thank you so much!
