  1. Ah okay. Can you guys share some of the questions you've been asked in these meetings?
  2. I'm going to give this a bump. So the professor actually emailed me back before I got a chance to approach him, and he wants to meet next week. Should I communicate to him in that meeting that I'm willing to work for free? Obviously I would strongly prefer to get paid so I'm a little scared that saying that right away could cause him to not want to pay regardless of funding. On the other hand, I feel like only saying it after a rejection would be too late. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but I'd appreciate any advice.
  3. So it turns out a friend of mine has class with him right now. I asked him for his office hours. Would it be a good idea to just show up to them and talk to him in person? Our interaction has been very limited so far so it might not work out well. On the other hand, I think I could potentially signal that I really would like this position and maybe leave a good impression during my drop in Any thoughts?
  4. Hello all. I've been trying to look for a summer RA position and there is a professor who replied to my email asking for documents, (transcripts, resume/CV, etc). I sent them to him and it's been a week and he hasn't replied yet. I'm not sure how this process works but is there a point when it would be appropriate to contact him again to check up? Also, I really just want the experience and would be willing to do unpaid work. Is that something I should communicate to him or would it be a bad idea?
  5. 1. Parametrizations, inverse and implicit functions, integrals with respect to length and area; grad, div, and curl, theorems of Green, Gauss, and Stokes 2. Yes, but taking it next semester will free up space for me to take Stochastic Processes next year.
  6. Can anyone comment on the usefulness of taking differential equations? I'm trying to decide whether or not I should take it next semester. What I've heard is that class is very difficult without having a background in physics (which I do not), as most of the class's focus is on physics applications and rarely delves into economics. I understand that differential equations is used in optimization theory, but if it's mostly focused on physics, then I feel like taking it wouldn't be too helpful and not worth the burden. If I were to not take it, I could take Calculus 4 next semester instead and be able to fit in Stochastic Processes in the coming year. On the other hand, Differential Eqs, in our school, has 200-level math classes listed as co-reqs meaning if I don't take it this year, I'll never have the chance to take it again. Any thoughts?
  7. I'm not entirely sure what the quarter system is. We have two four month semesters if that answers your question. Another quick question, would taking co-op or internship have any bearing on grad school applications? I'm thinking about doing it but I'm afraid if I take a year off school my relationship with my professors would deteriorate because of it. I'd also appreciate some feedback on some of my other questions above :)
