  1. Is there anyone who did not get any news from UCLA? I haven't got any....
  2. Hi, I am shortlisted for National University of Singapore, not that I get an offer. However, if I get an offer, I will have to accept it by the end of this month. This also means that I cannot apply to the US university. I can ask Singapore university to give me the offer next March, but that mitigates the change of getting the offer. So, I am asking for an advice, telling from my profit, should I ask Singapore university to give me the offer next March so I can apply to the US, or Just take the early offer if I get? In my university, 80+ is H1, equivalent to A in the US according to Michgan University, 75-79 is H2A, equivalent to A-, 70-74 is H2B, equivalent to B. PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: Top Australian University, Top in Economics (according to QS) Undergrad GPA: N/A (we do not use GPA) Type of Grad: N/A Grad GPA: N/A GRE: V 152/ Q 167/ W 3 Math Courses: Maths for Economists (taking now, Phd level, Real Analysis + a bit of functional analysis). Econ Courses (under grad): Intro-micro (H1, 80), intro-macro (H2B, 72), quantitative method 1 (H1, 80), intermediate-micro (H1, 85), intermediate-macro (H1, 92), quantitative method 2 (H2B, 72), Micro(H1, 86), Macro (H1, 93), Basic econometrics (H2A, 78), Econometrics (H1, 86), Economics of Financial market (H1, Top, 92), industrial economics (H1, 81) Econ Courses (grad): Advanced micro (H1, 92), Advanced Macro (H1, 83), Econometrics technics (H1, 96), Game theory (taking now), Economics of market and competition (taking now) Other Courses: Finance courses (mostly H1, one H2A, one H2B) Letters of Recommendation: one from honours thesis advisor, one from RA, one from course coordinators Research Experience: RA (empirical micro), Honours thesis (pure theory micro) Teaching Experience: 3rd year (presumably the same as 4th year in the US) subject Research Interests: Microeconomics (mechanism design, I/O) SOP: Haven't written yet Other: I can use Matlab if it helps for PhD admission.
  3. I'm an international student studying at Australia. For now, I'm thinking of applying NUS (Singapore), LSE, Oxford, and Cambridge. Can you please give me suggestion which university in the US I could have a shot, given that I do not have pure maths. In Australia, it is very unlikely that economics students take math courses as they are not required and maths is usually taught within economics courses. Especially, Advanced Micro was based on proof, also game theory and maths for economists that I am taking now are also proof based subjects, econometric technics had rigorous linear algebra. I want to apply to the UK and the US universities. Which universities would I have a chance to get in? (there was a history that some student without any math on academic transcript get into top 10 university in the US. From Michigan university, 80+ in Australia is considered as A in the US 75-79 is A- 70-74 is B
  5. Hi, I just took gre and got Q167/V152. Regarding that I am aiming for top 5-20 uni, is my score decent enough?
  6. Hi, I will be studying honours degree (Australian fourth year). And i am allowed to take not only graduate courses (advanced micro and macro), but also PhD courses for micro and macro. I asked them if I can take real analysis, but it seems impossible because of school policy. Anyway, if math is considered important simply because it is essential to PhD courses, and if I score A(HD) for phd courses, can it be compensation for no maths courses? Actually I studied by myself, including multivariable calculus and linear algebra, some of real analysis. So i think I can get A. Also, if you can choose between PhD courses and advanced I/O and game theory, which one would you choose, based on that your research interest lying on I/O
  7. Type of Undergrad: Bcom(H) Economics at top Aus uni, top 20 in econ in the world according to topuniversity H1:80+ H2A:75-80 H2B:70+ Undergrad GPA: average H1 (score more than 80) econ only, my uni doesn't have GPA system.. Other: won an award from economics of financial market which university is reasonable possible for me to apply in the US, considering that I get all H1 from ongoing subjects? Also I wanna do apply to applied economics in business school

  9. I recently changed my decision to pursue studying economics at PhD level. But one problem is that I didn't take any math subjects as I didn't feel it was needed. But I cannot take math subjects anymore as I am studying overseas (uni didn't let me take). So as detour, I took three mathematics for economists which cover optimisation, calculus, matrix, real analysis and differential equation. Obviously, it has less contents than pure maths. But do you think these maths for econ are enough to be admitted? I want to study applied economics (I/O, game theory) at business school
  10. Hello, guys i am a international student, graduated from AU university. But i cannot choose which phd programme i will apply because i dont know how good I am now, compared to other applicants. please tell me which Phd programme I have a chance to be accepted. Currently, i applied to NUS simoly bcz singapore is emerging market, thought that it would be easier for me to find A job there.
