  1. Is this about quant marketing? I thought they would update candidates about the shortlist/wait-list status too even if they do not give a candidate priority admission.
  2. :) I'll include Friday too. Basically, it would be great if I can have an acceptance before the Valentine's Day!
  3. Thanks keyvan37. Some of my interviews went well and some didn't go well. However, the schools have not come up with their formal decisions as yet. Based on some of the comments here, I have a feeling that most of the action is going to take place towards the later part of this month. So, it will be good to get ready with relevant papers, literature reviews and research ideas for the interviews. By the way this forum is my sole source of inside info till now. What does TGC mean? My google results indicate its something traded on New York Stock Exchange! I guess there should be an acronym compilation for prospective grad students somewhere. Your outside option is quite interesting. I hope you get your first best!
  4. I guess while there has been quite some action at the top and bottom, many of the middle tier schools aren't moving yet.
  5. Its useful to talk to a FULL Professor at a good school even if the interview does not go well. Full Professors can speak so much wisdom in few words. I guess it comes with such a lot of experience with teaching and research. I have been thinking that this application process can be more efficient if all schools agree on one application platform where all applicants just enter their particulars once and submit customized SOPs for each school. The schools pick the applicants from there, pass them through the review process, rank their candidates and post decisions on each student's portal. The student accepts an offer at one school and all other offers are cancelled automatically. At the same time, other students' records are updated, ranks change and decisions are updated in real time.
  6. I have been through this. The professor did not ask me for the information he already knew but maintained an aura of an interview. Unlike my other conversations with him, everything during the interview was way formal, just like other interviews. At the same time, he did not use his extra knowledge about me to ask very pointed questions.
  7. Exactly! Thanks! Particularly, in quant marketing, meeting 30 top notch professors is a big thing as the world of quant marketing is a small one. Irrespective of the program you end up joining, my feeling is that you will be meeting them in conferences etc and may be collaborating with them on research papers later on as well. The relationship is likely to be long term.
  8. Point taken. I didn't say this from a practical standpoint. Just wrote it in a symbolic sense, that is, monumental significance of having a contact list of our star PsOI whose research culture and academic lifestyles and careers we so much want to emulate. On the practical front, of course, I would rather keep this monument aside safely and move onto a new skype id.
  9. Shouldn't be a problem if you applied to the right schools for the right reasons. There is one downside to applying to fewer schools though: I was just looking at my skype and with only a few professors, it feels so respectable now. Everything else equal, I would envy someone who applied to like 20 schools and has around 30 well-published professors in the skype contact list.
  10. You never know! It could work in your favor. The adcoms may say "Look this candidate is really serious.He/she has applied to so many good schools. Hurry! Take him/her before he/she commits to another school!"
  11. If a professor said something like this to me for 3 out of 7 of my schools, I would promptly say: yes it would be an honor to end up at X. In my case, if a professor from those 4 schools had asked me for my strategy I would have proposed a simple bargaining game: You offer, I accept (and game ends). For the rest of the schools, that is really a nice statement to give, thanks.
  12. I took care to scan only the top portion of the report, so school names wouldn't be there. Hope school names are not mentioned in official score reports sent directly to schools!
  13. That is how I would like to rationalize too. Anyways, the world of quant marketing a small one. Professors have co-author Professors across schools, some have students placed in other schools. Thanks, I completely agree with the process you outline but I guess the Professors have been asking about my current perception about the school's ranking.
  14. Just to add, the last professor also asked me my plan of action for accepting/rejecting offers.
  15. Although all the professors are super nice during the interviews, I have been facing an awkward situation when they ask me to rank their school vis-a-vis other schools. Frankly, I haven't dug much into the rankings...just applied to schools with a decent quant marketing coursework and two to three professors (tacked from papers) with whom I would like to do my research. It doesn't feel quite right to make this comparison during an interview. So, I am just wondering what one should say in such a situation? Moreover, one of the professors in my last interview actually named almost all the schools I had applied to even though I did not mention this anywhere in my application. Am not sure how she had this information. It seems my application decisions are correlated across schools while I'd prefer them to be independently distributed.
  16. Exactly! The Professors have been really nice in all my interviews so far. But I feel they are looking for something more than smart answers to a few odd questions (as in job interviews)...they seem to asses applicant's understanding of the academic ecosystem they are about to step into, their drive and ability to take initiative...and all this is done in a very latent way.
  17. Thanks hopeassured for sharing the list. My feeling is that Wayne has more of a psychology-quant track. U Miami's deadline for Business PhD program was Jan 5. Its Economics PhD application deadline is Feb 2 (btw I just happened to explore the econ program and its quite good....based on their syllabi, they cover quite a bit of recent material in their course work, faculty has decent research and they are hiring more good faculy too) There seems to be something wrong with FSU's online application, everytime I login it returns an error message.
  18. Hi everyone! I am new to this forum, so here is my brief intro: undergrad (double major in econ and maths) and a masters in econ. Am applying to quant marketing PhD. Going over the thread, I have a feeling that I have applied to too few schools:upset:. Is (are) there any school(s) with a quant marketing track that I could still apply to?
