  1. My SCP submission was rejected, so sadly I am not going, but I hope it's a good one! :) And fingers crossed for ACR!
  2. In my interviewing experience, I've found it helpful to be formal, but not SO formal that you're uncomfortable. If you're comfortable in a tie and like wearing ties, wear a tie. If it feels weird, don't wear a tie, just wear a buttoned-up shirt. I'm a girl, and I wore a striped shirt with a white collar. I second the comment about the room: check how the background looks on skype and remove things like stuffed animals. Also, for fly-out interviews: be formal, but formal only to a point of being comfortable. If you look uncomfortable, it may look like you're trying too hard with your outfit. Consider the weather and the structure of your day.
  3. I just wanted to say that, in my understanding, it's common practice for universities to contact the recommenders (if the university is interested in the applicant) if their letter is missing. I'm sure you had to enter in their contact info when you indicated who these people are - this contact info is used by the administration people / the application portal to nudge the recommenders. My old advisor said that, if a school is interested, they'll look to see why a letter isn't there.... so my impression is that it's not a deal-breaker. Another, less-optimistic note... I got my interview invites between late January and late Februrary, but my straight-up official rejections came so late that they were obvious. Unfortunately, the rejection was indirectly communicated through silence.
  4. Hi hattrick, I'm not sure if this question is directed at me or AraBeyonce, but I can tell you about my application profile. I had applied straight out of undergrad (psychology), and I had a 4.0 GPA. I took the GRE instead of GMAT, and I scored at the 87th percentile on verbal and 65th percentile on math. I don't think that this information was nearly as significant as the fact that I had two publications, an R&R, a couple papers in prep that I could talk about, 10+ posters, 4 years of research experience (4 years in one lab, 2 years in another lab, and two labs 1 year each), and collaboration with professors outside of my school. Importantly, most of my work had concerned consumer psychology, so I was able to communicate I was a good research fit for consumer behavior research. So... my GRE scores on their own would not have been good, but (I think) having this research experience (which signaled "this person knows something about research and can publish") and research fit (meaning I made it clear I wanted to do the type of work that two of the faculty were doing and could connect my past research to my present interests) was the reason I was accepted. When I was applying, I had decided that I'd rather focus on my efforts on doing research rather than re-taking the GRE. Would I have had more offers if my math GRE was better? I don't know, unfortunately.
  5. Hi AraBeyonce, A large portion of the marketing Ph.D. cohort are actually international students who didn't get their degrees at US universities, so in my opinion that doesn't systematically hurt your application. I think that having educational background in marketing and business is something that you can highlight in your statement of purpose - maybe the type of the degree (i.e., MSc Marketing, MPhil Business Research) isn't popular, but the knowledge signaled by those degrees is valuable. That's actually something you have that I (and applicants similar to me) don't have. I was a psychology undergrad. While I had 4 years of research experience in consumer psychology, a downside of my applications (I think) was that I didn't have work experience or education that said "this person knows about how these things play out in the real world, outside the lab." If, in your statement, you wrote about how what you learned in your master's programs motivates your current research interests and their applicability to the field, I think that'd be great. (And I don't think this is advice is specific to BU, that's just my general opinion). In regard to undergraduate GPA... Do you think your GRE or GMAT scores make the application look better? I honestly don't know how much impact undergrad GPA has (or the impact that GRE/GMAT scores have) in the end. I think that, if you contact the professors whose work you're interested in, you'll increase interest in your application. There's not much you can do about grades and test scores at this point, but a case for a good research fit with the faculty is something that's worth working on.
  6. Hi internet, I'm a first-year Marketing Ph.D. student at BU, and we are recruiting new Ph.D. students this year. My department recommended that we share information about our program in places on the internet we used to check when applying, so... here we are :) I just went through the application madness last year, and I would be happy to share my experiences and answer the questions I can, both about BU and the general process. This is a general overview: www.bu.edu/questrom/files/2015/11/Questrom_Factsheets_Marketing_Final.pdf Best of luck to everyone!
  7. Systemd22, I don't think your undergraduate GPA is a cause for concern - you have a good graduate GPA and GRE scores. Even if a school uses a filter with undergrad GPA included, your other scores won't let that drag you down. :)
  8. Institution Name: Boston University School of Management Type of Notification: E-mail Notification: Accepted Posted on GradCafe?: Yes Comments: I accepted the offer. Going to BU!
  9. Hello! I was on the shortlist and also did the interview. I ended up withdrawing two weeks later (because I realized I really wanted to go to a different school, regardless of the NYU decision)... so the only information I have is that I had not heard from them in the two weeks between interviewing and my own withdrawal. Sending good vibes your way! Hope it works ok!
  10. Out of curiosity... has anyone heard back from NYU Marketing after the interviews? :)
  11. Sheetrockero: Aww, thank you! I've already visited. Otherwise, I would have definitely met with you and enjoyed the meal! Still thinking :)

  13. Congratulations on your acceptance and keeping the chickens! I did not make the post, but I am also accepted to UO (marketing). I am still thinking (and will talk to my advisor this week), but I hope to decide soon! I don't know how many other people have interviewed / were offered admission, unfortunately.
  14. Hi there, fellow applicant! I applied to NYU Stern on the Marketing CB track, and I got invited to the March 10th interview. I am sorry if the news I'm delivering aren't positive, but I am crossing my fingers you'll get good news soon.
  15. Thank you very much, Endrist and XanthusARES! Also, good luck with the rest of the interviewing process, Endrist!
