  1. Are you emphasizing the difference in quality (which one is better) or in direction (academia vs. industry or Econ department vs. b-school, public policy school...)?
  2. What is the difference in placement?
  3. What is the difference of Econ PhD program in Business School and in Economics Department? Is the one in b-school mainly micro theory? But Hsieh and Song in Booth seem focus on macro... Could anyone please offer some information?
  4. What is it? I would like to go to academia.
  5. Hi everyone! I have got offers from these institutions. Michigan: Fellowship $18500 (tuition and fee waiver+health care) Maryland: Fellowship/Graduate Assistantship (tuition waiver+health care) $20488 PSU: Research Assistantship (tuition waiver+health care, "Usually, there are no assigned duties in the first two years") $ 30330 I am not fanatic about specific area. Which program should I choose? I care about the value-added of the programs in terms of placement. Could you provide some suggestions? Many thanks! By the way, I am admitted by UCLA but without any funding. The estimated cost is $51010....too much...so it may not be an option, isn't it?
  6. Hi, does the offer of Michigan explicitly say you need to do TA in the first year? My offer says it will provide full‐time tuition and registration fees, a stipend plus health and dental insurance coverage. The TA (they call "Graduate Student Instructor, GSI") is for year two through five.
  7. What do you mean by "without funding"? Is there at least tuition waiver?
  8. Hi all, I am on the “Pending” list of the Econ PhD program at Department of Economics, Northwestern, and the details are as follow: “ Dear XX, We are in charge of PhD admissions at Northwestern, and wanted to reach out and update you on your status in the application process. Your application is still "pending." This means that we have not yet reached a final decision. While we understand that this uncertainty is not ideal from your point of view, the partially good news is that your application has *not* been denied at this stage. We hope to have more information in the next few weeks. Official decisions regarding your application will be available via ApplyYourself. In the meantime, it may be useful if you could let us know if you have received offers from peer institutions. Best, Giorgio Primiceri and Marciano Siniscalchi Professors of Economics and Directors of Graduate Admissions. “ In fact, I have been admitted to Michigan and UCLA by now. Do you think replying this email by telling them my offers and expressing the eagerness to go to Northwestern could increase my chance of being admitted? Or contacting some professors? If so, could you give me some suggestions about the wording of email? Are there something like template? Thank you for your attention and response!
