  1. Hey Guys, I've recently become really interested in Economic Epidemiology and I have been trying to find some programs to apply to. I've only seen one person so far at Chicago who works in that area. I'm thinking it might be best to apply to programs with a strong Health field but I was wondering if anyone here knows of a specific program that I should look into.
  2. It was really a personal preference for me. He didn't seem to really be interested in the students and whether or not we were understanding the material. It was supposed to be a Metrics prep course and a lot of the students felt underprepared. I know that Georgia State is a pretty decent Micro school though. I was just not impressed with him overall and since he mentioned he was the head of the graduate studies department for econ it just really turned me off to the program. I wouldn't let this stop you from applying if you are really interested though, as you can always visit the school before making a decision. Plus you might be able to get some decent funding.
  3. Honestly I would consider a Masters program over an additional year of undergrad. It is very hard to get into quality programs where you are right now. UT has a one year masters program that is great preparation (though I am completely biased because I am in it right now). I'm just not sure how much an additional year of undergrad would lend you. Your econ profile is also a little weak and it is often better to take some stats classes as well. Ultimately it depends on a couple of things: 1) how comfortable are you with your base Econ knowledge? 2) How comfortable are you with reading/writing proofs (you will need at least one proof intensive class-real analysis as others have mentioned is good)? 3) How strong are your LORs?
  4. The head of the Graduate Department at Georgia State was a visiting professor at UT this summer and taught the masters stats prep course. He talked a lot about the program, stating how micro orientated it was. To be honest though, most of the students in the cohort were not big fans. Just his teaching style alone was enough to turn me off from the program. May not be relevant but thought I would throw in my 2 cents!
  5. Hey Guys! I saw a thread like this that was created a few years back for those doing the M.A. Program at the University of Texas at Austin. I figured I would create one for the entering class so we can meet each other and keep in touch before the program starts!
  6. Hey Guys! Figured I would start this thread so that those of us going to the University of Texas at Austin's M.A. in Economics program starting this summer can chat and get to know each other. Figured I would make a Facebook group or something if we can reach the people!
  7. Hey guys! I've been a lurker on this board for a long time but this is my first time posting! I've had a completed application at UC Davis's Agro Econ Ph.D program for a while now and I am still waiting for a decision. I called them a couple of weeks back and I was told that I was in a small group that they have yet to make a decision on. I saw on Grad Café over the weekend that a few people were just rejected but I have yet to hear anything. I have checked the portal and I'm really nervous because that's my top choice program! Has anyone had a similar experience or know of someone who does? I've only got until the 8th of April to accept the masters program at UT Austin, but I don't want to call again because I do not want to put any pressure on a final decision. Any advice?
