  1. Test Scores (GMAT/GRE): 710 (91%) Q49(77%) V38(85%) will retake Undegrad GPA: 3.35 Accountancy Minor in Statistics Flagship state school in midwest Graduate GPA: Research Experience: - Working paper (M&A) coauthored with a chair professor and an assistant professor, prepare to submit to SMS/AOM - Research assistant for two accountancy professors and two finance professors before I entered strategy; Data entry, literature review, run regressions with STATA, etc. 6 months each. Teaching Experience: None Work Experience:I founded a start-up but I already quitted; two internships in commercial banks in China Concentration Applying to: Strategy Number of programs planned to apply to: 18 Dream Schools: Maryland, Michigan, Wharton, UNC LORs:Chair professor in strategy (co-author and PhD course instructor, should be very good), Chair professor in OT (PhD course instructor, should be good), Associate Professor in strategy ( PhD course instructor, should be good), Assistant professor in strategy ( co-author and PhD course instructor, should be very good) I also attended 5 PhD seminars; get good letters from all of the instructors. My questions: 1. How much will my GPA hurt me? I got depression in my freshman year and I hate accountancy...I got A+ in every finance/management/marketing course. 2. Do I have some chances in schools like Maryland, MIchigan, Duke, UNC or any top 20 programs? 3. I am also interested in OT. However, I noticed that OT programs are more interested in taking sociology students rather than business students. Which tier of schools should I focus on if I apply to OT programs at the same time?
  2. Hello guys! I am an rising sophomore in U.S. university and I am interest in purse a phd degree in business in the future. However, I have some questions about it. 1.What kind of mathematics background is competitive? For accountancy (empirical financial most likely),strategy and Finance (Cooperate Finance most likely). I am wondering which courses I should take in the future. I already finished Calculus I-III, Intro Linear Algebra and 2 Economics Stat courses. I am wondering if Real Analysis I will be the end. Stat and Math are really boring so I really don't want to take courses if not necessary... 2.How to get involved in professors' research projects? I was research assistant for accountancy professors and finance professors in my freshman year. Most of my work is to collect data/information or such "dirty work". I saw a lot of applicants can deeply involve in the research project of their professors and I am wondering if there is any tip or suggestion. Also, a lot of applicants even have 2-4 working paper/research projects in their undergraduate study. Considering a research project or academic paper will need 2-4 years to finish, it seems very impossible... 3.Is working experience critical in the research and admission? Thank you for your help!
  3. My professor told me that the committee prefer "older" applicants(25-30) because they have more "real world experience" so they are more mature. Is this correct?
  4. I guess 3.7-3.8 is more like a bottom line(Although my accy professor told me the same thing)...Students in top program always got highest honor, especially for the people who pursue a phd degree directly(without a master degree). Also, I found economic phd programs really care about specific courses( econ/math). Nearly all of my accy professors told me that they only look at applicants' cumulative GPA. The committee should look at ranking...I just knew a girl in FuDan math department get 2.9/4.0 with a 12/60 ranking...
