  1. Yes, I felt the same thing.
  2. I think I saw the guy you talked about posted on other forum seeking advise. Wish him good luck.
  3. Sounds reasonable. But, to be honest, I am choosing between Econ and B-school offers. I am inclined to Econ program for the arguably better headroom (potential to be placed at similar or even higher ranked program). And almost all the stars from the department in the past few years are under the supervision of the professor I mentioned. I am not saying I will definitely be the star in 5 years and I know the median placement is the thing I should look at. But losing a better potential advisor in the department make the B-school offer more attractive to me.
  4. I was about to accept an offer until I heard a rumour about one of the faculty I planned to work with is leaving. Do you guys think it is appropriate for me to shoot an email and ask him/her directly? April. 15 is around the corner and I cannot make up my own mind.
  5. Has anyone been admitted off waitlist recently? The market clears really slowly this year.
  6. Get my first finance offer today. Do not lose hope guys. Market clears quickly in April.
  7. Still waiting for UCSD. It is almost April and it must be an implicit rejection.
  8. It is good to hear the placement of the second batch of students. You guys are doing as good as the first batch. Congratulations! I have to point out I am in the program as well and many of my friends turned down their offers with 50%-80% tuition waiver from UT-Austin and came here with absolutely no funding opportunity. Therefore I guess the student quality is better especially the top 10-20% of the class. I don't know if OP get tuition waiver from UT or not. But Wisconsin will charge $6000 per class which could make you pay ridiculous amount if you want to take extra math and first-year Ph.D. classes.
  9. I have to say the student input for Wisconsin is much better than UT. Many of the Master students in Wisconsin are those who got bad luck and rejected by all the phd programs they applied for, They are much better prepared for Phd study and have a better idea about the whole application process, so the placement looks better. For the second batch of student in Wisconsin, I heard one was admitted by Northwestern, several got Wisconsin and several others got into top30 schools. The student quality of the second batch is not as good as the first batch so the placement is not as good, but still might be the best among all the Econ Master's programs in the US. I am not going to say wisconsin get this placement record for free. But taking the student quality into consideration, Wisconsin is not as much value-added as they are trying to make you believe. Many of the students deserved Phd admission letters two years ago and after another two years of preparation, they can only perform better. The inability to place students in top20 schools other than Wisconsin itself is also a concern. And don't forget the placement on the website are those who get admitted by somewhere. There are a number of people who applied and got nothing as well.
  10. If you like econometrics and micro theory, go PSU. Austin for IO and applied micro. The placement records of WUSTL and UIUC do not look as good as PSU and Austin. In term of location, I personally think Austin is the best. PSU and UIUC are in the middle of nowhere. St. Louis is a little scary. That's my :2cents:.
  11. I am with you. Now we have to fight to the last minute!
  12. Do anyone happen to have news from UCSD, Rutgers and ASU?
  13. Hi mathemagician. Thank you for your posts on the forum, it has been very helpful for me reading your past posts. Recently I was admitted by the school you are at. And I am concerned about the monetary situation at the department. The program I am from is facing a serious funding cut and it almost applies to all the state universities across the nation. But what is the situation there? The department suffered from a major loss in macro back in a few years and haven't fully recover from it so would you mind talking a little bit about the plan of the department in the near future? Is the department active hiring on the market in the fields that was strong in the past but pretty much non-existence now?
  14. Am I the only one who didn't get anything, any form of admit/reject/waitlist, from Wisconsin?
  15. Still waiting for BU and UCSD. Ahhh, I cannot focus on study at all even though the next midterm is the day after tomorrow.
  16. I am expecting reject from Wisconsin to come in a few days. It seems that they have sent out everything they are able to send except rejects.
  17. Why schools are not sending rejects this year? At the same time last year I got about 9 rejects in hand, but I only get 2 rejects this year. Even though some schools have already sent out several batches of offers, not having official rejects always give me unhealthy amount of hope.
  18. I interviewed with several (>=3) schools. I guess the standard process is that they rank all the interviewees after the interview and give offers from the very top. Unless it is a prestigious school, those top people will mostly turn down their offers and people who are ranked lower will get their offers. I think that's the reason why my friends got offers so late. The process is slow until the market for those top programs is clear. For people like you and me who have heard nothing after interviews, I think the only thing we could do is to wait. I guess we still have a decent chance as long as we did not bomb the interview.
  19. Hahaha... I thought it would be a lucky year for us but it turns out the competition is still fierce. I haven't get a single offer from b-school so far. But it's still early. Many of my friends got b-school offer in April due to the way b-school sending out offers. So hang in there. Hope we all get good offers.
  20. I think it is still early to think about this. There is usually a long way to go from interview to an official offer. Not trying to bash your hope but if I were you I won't start thinking about this until I get official offer.
  21. Same here. Maryland is my dream school. This waiting is killing me.
  22. Wisconsin will start charging ridiculous amount of tuition next year. Even if you do not get any tuition waiver, I guess duke is still cheaper if you take 4 classes every semester for 2 years.
  23. Rejected by Penn State several hours ago. Not a good fit for me so I am not worried.
