" --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Interdisciplinary study has drawn more and more attention in today's academic research and practice. I agree with the statement that thinking out of box and learning from other field is critical. First of all, in the social science field, it is indispensable to be aware of the knowledge and experience from other disciplines because virtually everything is socially interrelated. For example, a basic assumption in economics is that every individual is self-interested and only does things that advance their own benefit. However, in the real world, people do make sacrifice for others based on their own believes or callings they find in life. In this circumstance, economic research needs to borrow some concepts from sociology that how social context impacts people's behavior and some statistical techniques to accommodate the situations that don't necessarily satisfy the assumption. Therefore, the complicated subject of social science field --- human, requires different methodologies and perspectives from more than one field. People might argue that at least in science field, scientists do not need to spend much time learning knowledge of other fields since scientific questions are always very specific. Considering material science, where a researcher wants to improve the durability of a battery, s/he just needs to focus on testing different materials and controlling for conditions in order to find a material that maximizes the longevity of the battery. In this case, knowledge about the nature of different materials is enough for his/her experiment. Likewise, a programmer who wants to develop a software program just needs to bear in mind how to translate the ideas to the programming code. In these circumstances, there is no need for them to acquire more knowledge beyond their own fields. However, we are living in an era that places ever-increasing emphasis on fresh ideas and creative thinking. Incorporating knowledge and experience from outside a field is the essential way to broaden people's mind and apply useful thoughts to one's own field. Wearable device is a perfect combination of communication technology, fashion design, and material science. Firstly, bendable material is the foundation for the wearable device, including bendable screen and battery. Then, people need to be willing to wear those device, which requires for the contribution from fashion designers. Last but not least, wearable device still needs to be functional, and communication technology experts are the essential on that front. All people involving in the design of wearable device ought to know each other’s work , otherwise those components wouldn’t be able to piece together. As the development of human needs and human imagination, no one single field can fulfil those ideas without the help of people in other areas.
