  1. Thanks for the insight. I like the forums and feel lucky to have stumbled across the community. With that, I appreciate all that you do. Re: thread, I was confused as another commenter -- who's obviously a prolific poster -- used equivalent language, but wasn't admonished from what I could tell. Since then, I've gotten a better feel for the forum culture. All good. edit: grammar
  2. Please see other eval threads and format your profile to the standard template. You'll get better responses.
  3. Hello! I got a note from a mod saying this post was considered "Flaming." Though "flaming" isn't explicitly forbidden in the forum rules (maybe it should?), I did find a post where the same mod said flagging posts for "flaming" was under their discretion. No issue here with that policy. I'm confused as to how my post "flamed" considering the guidance provided for what is/isn't tolerated. I called the poster out for logical fallacies and misrepresenting claims. Is that viewed as a character attack...? Here's the notice: Thanks! Edit: It now appears that the post has been deleted for "offensive language." Where did I use "offensive language?"
  4. You're crazy. 130K for avg. starting salary of CS/engr from undergrad? Anti-MBA rant...bizarro comparison with consulting/IBD + bizarro debt math...just talking nonsense.
  5. Look at UChicago. They grant MBA with/without PhD. Honestly, I don't think an MBA's going to dazzle Econ PhD admissions unless you have a prestige school. An MBA won't bolster your statistics competency, though the MBA could differentiate you.
  6. Please provide evidence to support your claim. What schools are producing MBA's with salaries similar to undergrad STEM students at a given school? Broadening the umbrella, the top end of undergrad STEM salaries at top schools doesn't even touch the floor of MBA salaries at mid-range schools. Why not? OP even asked this question. You're agreeing with me.
  7. Core MBA curriculum doesn't overlap with core Econ MA curriculum. Elective MBA Economics courses don't really overlap either. If you're concerned about job prospects, you can answer this question by comparing the caliber of students admitted and the financial outcomes (i.e. salaries). All else equal at a given university, MBA > Econ MA in terms of opportunities and caliber of student.
