  1. [Anyone, Please reply!!] Hi Guys, I graduated this May and planning to apply to Master's in Economics to boost my chances of getting into better Phd programs. I was looking into Canadian programs and some European ones (such as UBC, Queens, Toronto, Toulouse, LSE, Stockholm, PSE, Oxford, etc). However, I am not sure what my chances are at these programs. Could you please suggest me some programs that I have reasonable chance at getting admitted along with FUNDING. PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: Small U.S. liberal arts University Undergrad GPA: 3.91, Economics GPA: 3.96 Other Major: Political Science, Minor: Mathematics GRE: 166Q 157V AW:N/A Relevant Mathematics Courses: Discrete Mathematics, Advanced Calculus, Linear Algebra, Mathmatical Modeling Relevant Econ Courses: Macroeconomics(A), MicroEconomics(A-), Econometrics(A), Intermediate Macro(A), Intermediate Micro(A), Macro Econ Policy(A), American Econ History(A) Research: Honors Thesis (Comparison of Economic development of India and China) LORS: Very Very strong. One from department chair. (However, I suspect the professors will be a known name to the adcoms) -Top 5 student of graduating class -Naitonality: Nepalese Any suggestions about any programs would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time.
  2. Thank you spivakis. Does any fellow urch member have some advises on the European master's I have mentioned above. I am sure there are others who are in same situation as mine.
  3. Thank you guys for your response. There has been PhD placements from our department to other heterodox programs such as University of Mass, University of Kansas, and New School. My professors are post-Keynesians and speak highly of these schools. But I don't want to limit my application to just these. Having said that I am also exploring Master's programs that could help me build better credentials. European master's such as Barcelona GSE, Toulouse, PSE, CEMFI, have fairly affordable programs. These are highly competitive. Do you guys know of any Master's that suits my profile? Thanks a lot for your time and responses again. (I don't know if this is relevant to my application but I won two international bronze medals in Mathematics during my highschool, scored perfect 800 in SAT, and should be able to get close to perfect score in GRE quant (considering practice tests). Would this information have any change in perception of the admission counsel towards my ability to handle mathematics?)
  4. I would not say that my letter writers are a very active researchers. But they do have connections to heterodox schools. I would like to study development economics. Also, can anyone help me set a realistic goal.
  5. Type of Undergrad: Unknown U.S. University Major: B.A. Economics, Political Science, and Minor in Mathematics GPA: Cumulative 3.91, Econ 3.968, Relevant honors: Graduated Summa cum laude with honors Undergrad Thesis: Comparative analysis of development of China and India (It is a qualitative analysis and tbh of a very inferior quality, still got an A) GRE: Should be able to get >165 on the quant Math Classes: Elementary Calculus I and II, Discrete Mathematics (A-), Mathematical modelling (A-), Linear Algebra (A), Advanced Calculus (A) Econ Classes: Intermediate Micro (A), Intermediate Macro (A), Econometrics (A), Intro to Corporate Finance (A), American Economic History (A), Macroeconomic Policy (A), Money, Credit and Banking (A), Financial Markets (A), Stats for Business and Economics (A) Recommendations: I should get a VERY VERY strong recommendation from both of my Economics professors (one of them is the chair of Econ department as well as my thesis advisor). I am also planning to get a recommendation from one of my Political Science professor who without doubt will have excellent recommendation for me. Teaching Experience: Worked as a tutor at the college's tutoring center and taught Mathematics. Concerns: Lack of high level Mathematics courses, Graduated from an unknown University, University economics department is pretty heterodox. Thank you guys in advance. I am a pessimist on most of the part. So, I have no idea what to expect or what to aim for while applying to Grad Schools. Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks. P.S. I am new to here. So, I copied the format from one of the posts. Sorry for that.
