  1. Yes, I'm really appealed with pursuing a career within academic finance, and I think I can leverage myself with my previous research interests/background. Actually, I've read that this isn't uncommon, specially within international applicants (as my case, no university on my country offers a Finance or financial heavy PhD program).
  2. Thanks for your input guys. I think I'm going to go with the second PhD path, I hope that the unis I'll apply to consider my original one as a positive asset (although, as YaSvoboden said, I'll take a wide application strategy to maximize my chances).
  3. Thanks for the reply Synthesis! My main reasons for pursuing the second PhD is to enhance and develop an alternative insight to my current research area through financial theories, since it is quite necessary for me to do so in order to achieve remarkable results (although, the fact that I love studying quant subjects and that I want to leave the mayhem at my country plays a big role on my decision).
  4. Thanks for your insight. Yes, I'm also considering a postdoc, although due to my main research goals, at this moment I'm leaning towards the PhD.
  5. Hi, long time reader and first time poster here. First of all, let me detail my profile a bit: I'm a Venezuelan researcher, and I'm 29 years old. I hold a Bachelors Degree of Industrial Engineering from a mid-tier Venezuelan university (gpa=15/20, 2nd of my class), a Master’s Degree in Applied Economics (gpa=19/20, first of my class) and a Doctorate in Economic Sciences from the best private university of my home country (both Masters and Doctorate degrees are from the same school). I have a strong research background, having published several papers throughout my career. Basically, most of my research has been focused on the impact that public policies have on financial markets. However, as time passes, I'm feeling more compelled onto focusing my research on finance. This, aligned with the fact that my country is currently going through an enormous financial crisis, which has affected on a greater scale our academia (researchers with higher degrees here make about 400 $, PER YEAR! :miserable:), has made me consider to pursue a PhD in Finance abroad at a top university. Given this, and assuming that I achieve a good GMAT score (+750, +50Q), would any good university will be willing to accept me on their Finance PhD program? Specially, given the fact that I already have lots of research experience and my research interests are mostly multidisciplinary between Economics and Finance.
  6. Thanks for the quick reply! I´ll post this on the PhD in Business also. I have indeed though about the apparent lack of compromise, although my two main reasons for pursuing a second doctorate are mainly to give me a better and broader insight of my current research field (also want to pursue independent research in Finance), and due to the aforementioned extenuating political-economical circumstances that I'm living in my country... also, I forgot to mention, that the murder rate here on Venezuela is the second highest on the world... unfortunately, I lost a really close family member recently while he was kidnapped, and I don't want that same faith for my wife and my baby...
