  1. PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: B.A. in Economics at a top Canadian school Undergrad GPA: 3.74/4.0 Type of Grad: M.A. in Economics at a top Canadian school Grad GPA: ~3.9 (I think... not sure about the scale at this school) GRE: 167Q, 170V, 4.5A Math Courses: Single Variable Calc (B-), Multivariate Calc (A), Intro Probability and Stats (B), Lin Alg I (A+), ODE (A-), Graph Theory (A), Real Analysis I (B), Nonlinear Optimization (C+) Undergrad Econ Courses: Intermediate Micro and Macro, Adv. Micro and Macro, Metrics I and II, lots of field courses (A's in everything) Grad Econ Courses: PhD Micro I (A-), PhD Micro II (A), Metrics (A), Macro (A), some field courses (all A's) Letters of Recommendation: 1 letter from a prof at top 5 US school (supervisor for a full-time RA position). The letter should be good but not "this is the brightest person I've ever encountered" good, more like "this applicant is comparable to students I've known to attend top 2 US schools". 2 decently well established profs at top Canadian schools who can speak to my research ability (ie. reviewed and advised on small original research projects). One of these letters should be fairly stellar, other should be just pretty good. Research Experience: Currently doing a full-time RA position at top 5 US school, 1.5 years RA experience during undergrad, ~5 small original research projects during grad and undergrad including undergraduate thesis (a bunch of empirical papers that generally yielded null results). Research Interests: Empirical Micro (causal inference), Networks, Political Economy I'm looking for a realistic assessment of my prospects, insofar as it is possible for anyone to make such an estimation. I'm fairly certain applying to the very top schools is a waste of my time and money, but will likely apply anyway (I'd rather know without a doubt that I could never have gotten into MIT). I'm more looking for a sense of whether I'd be competitive at top 15 schools or should be aiming lower. There's still time to retake the GRE so any advice on the likely marginal benefit of an extra 3 points on the quant section would also be appreciated. I know tons of these sorts of post are made but I really do appreciate any time anyone takes to review my profile and provide honest feedback, however brief. Thanks!
