  1. Hi, I am applying to graduate (PhD) economics programs. I am aiming (hopefully) for top programs. My undergad and master’s is in economics from not very high ranked programs. Additionally I have a good amount of math classes. My undergrad GPA is 3.85 and graduate, including all the additional math classes is 4.0. I have also a publication in an ok journal and a couple of years of research experience as RA and research economist. However my quant part of the GRE is not good, it is 163 (86 percentile). I had a serious family issue this semester, so I didn’t have enough time to prepare for it or to retake it. Now I’m thinking that I should address it in the statement of purpose. What do you think? Does it make sense?
