  1. Hi, I just took my Toefl and this is what my score card looked like... Listening 27 structure 13-30 reading 30 Range 233- 290 Well, for those of you who are still to take the test I would give the following tips 1) Ok , there is no way to avoid the tutorial. So all these test books which say skip the tutorial, well they haven't got it correct. So just try to go through it as fast as you can. Actually, I thought it was pretty helpful even though I am a regular computer user. 2) The listening is not tough. It's just that the time is a big factor in this section. So basically you don't have much time to mull over your answers. 3) Now the reading. These are my suggestions... Go for one passage at a time even though you are allowed to navigate through the entire section. What's the point in confusing yourself ? Do not answer the difficult questions(like main idea, or inference questions) first. Navigate through the questions pertaining to the passage and answer all those questions about "meaning" or "what noun does this pronoun refer to"? The reason I suggest doing this is because while answering these simpler questions, you sub consciously read the passage which helps you to answer the more difficult questions.(Tip from Princeton Review) There is no "answer confirm" in the reading section so I was really confused about the whole thing. Here is how it functions. You start answering all the questions, once you reach the last one and press "next" the computer asks you whether you want to quit this section. I would suggest spending time reviewing the answers because the reading section gives you ample time. Anyway that's all for now. Best of Luck to all... :D
  2. :D:o oopssssssssssssssssss both the questions got me!
  3. :)Hi everybody! Thanks Erin, I will still be around a lot.I am going to take my Toefl at the end of this month and I am looking forward to participating in that forum. Thanks Ram. Thank you Deepika. You know I didn't know I had to take that confirmation letter.Luckily I just printed it out before I left home because I thought I might forget my confirmation number. Really these guys don't tell you anything when you take an appointment!! Thanks dk...yea I am relieved but still some work left before I send my applications. Your posts are really good and they helped in my preparation. So a big thank you for that too! Hi solo!! wonder how that is possible? It's really strange...I guess they liked you better than they liked me!;) Natasha
  4. Hi , I just took my GMAT today and this is what my scores were Quant 49 91%ile Verbal 41 93%ile overall 730 97%ile Over the last month,I have gone through this particular thread numerous times.I guess reading the experiences of people who took the test calmed my nerves. These are certain trivial aspects but they may help some of you (in India atleast) check list before you go to the test centre - 1) confirmation letter (yes you have to print it out from the site http://www.prometricindia.com) 2) photo ID (passport and some other ID like drivers license or student's ID etc.) 3) Please don't waste your time and energy the day before the exam (like me) remembering the institute codes for the free scores.Rather check the exact name of the college and the state in which it is located. This may seem rather an easy task for Americans but for others who are not familiar with the states ,knowing the name of the state in which the college you want to send your free score to is in ,is a real help. 4) You are provided with a locker inside the center so don't spend too much time thinking what you can and cannot take inside the center.(and yes I did take a cell phone .I kept it in the locker) 5) Locate the restroom when you enter....you don't want to spend 5 precious minutes of your break locating one. 6)other things like pencils ,scratch paper are provided.Yet there are fools like me who sharpen ten pencils only to keep them in the locker .:o (Yea I got this silly idea from the check list in Kaplan which said take pencils, eraser and sharpener.) 7) Most of us practice on a normal keyboard but the labtops at the Center are a different experience altogether.Be prepared to be a little slower in the AWA section. OK now about the test.... I am obviously not going to reveal anything about the test questions but while i was preparing, going through other people's scores helped me to gauge myself so here are my scores - PP 700,710 Kaplan 650,640,620,580(note the decline!!!) Princeton 670,680,650,740 and the worst one ever Crack Gmat....510 (40 Q 12 V) yes, you read that correctly 12 V so you can only guess how close the material on this test is to the one on the actual GMAT. I whole heartedly agree with Erin that no test can truly help you predict your score;only the powerprep test comes closest. Well that's all for now .Please feel free to ask me any questions regarding preparation for the test. And ofcourse a BIG BIG THANK YOU TO ERIN:D, and ALL OTHER TEST MAGICIANS for their support and help. Natasha
  5. OK sorry the © part 2/5th of an hour is 24 minutes (forgot to type that) HTH
  6. My answer is 94 mins Since they build only one robot at a time... First the 2 robots work at the rate of 1 + 1/2 = 3/2 so they complete one robot in 2/3 rd of an hour ,i.e. 40 minutes....(A) Now the 3 robots work together at the rate of 1 + 1/2 + 1/2 = 4/2 = 2/1 so they complete one robot in 1/2 an hour,i.e 30 minutes.......(B) Now the 4 robots work together at the rate of 1 + 1/2 + 1/2 + 1/2 = 5/2 so they complete one robot in 2/5th of an hour ......© therefore we hve (A) + (B) + © = 94 minutes...

    Happy Thanksgiving!

:)Hi Erin and other TMites, Happy Thanksgiving and Hope you all have a great weekend . And thank you Erin and all other TMites for being so helpful
  8. ok I came up with these (2).... attempt to try and ( "attempt to" is enough) cooperate together( "cooperate" is sufficient)
  9. Amigoro, That is very useful.I agree that it is important to follow the course of the essay. I will go through the site you mentioned and follow the excercise. Thanks, Natasha
  10. The correct choice in a sentence correction should not suffer from redundancy; it should be as concise as possible.I came across a couple of such questions so I am posting them. Questions from the [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] 10th edition. never ....again("never "implies that you won't do it again) Q.246 have and will continue ("will continue" should suffice as it implies you have been performing an action in the past) Q.75 atleast as strong as or stronger ("atleast as strong as" or "stronger than" is enough) Q.59,Q.266 prohibiting that... cannot( " prohibit from" is correct usage ,"cannot" is not required) Q.100 The reason ...is because("the reason is that" or "because" is sufficient) HTH:) natasha
  11. The GMAT sentence correction emphasizes on conciseness. In many powerprep explanantions, you will observe that they say "redundant" which means there is the use of an extra word or words which is not required. is gramatically correct but is redundant so you can use 1)the reason is that OR 2) it is because... Remember that when you have two choices which are gramatically correct go for the one which is concise. The GMAT always emphasises "best" choice as against "correct"choice. OK I am making another post with a few redundant phrases that I found on the OG so that it is easy for others to find.
  12. ok....let's see if anybody has any other opinions!! natasha
  13. dkp, i interpreted the question like this... 10= 5*2 so 10(q) is a multiple of 2® prime nos 17 = 17*1 so 17 (q) is a multiple of 1 ® prime no. by that logic if r so in 1) 76= 19 *2 *2 that is it is a multiple of 3 prime nos but it is not divisible by 3 at the same time 12 = 3*2*2 that is it is a multiple of 3 prime nos but is divisible by 3 which is why i ruled out (A) now i am confused regarding the meaning of the question! natasha
  14. Erin/any member who can advice I have written 2 essays, the topics are from GMAT 10th edition OG(analysis of issue + analysis of argument) I read the guidelines to submit the essay , but I am not able to follow how do I get the Number for the essay. I did go through each and every topic listed by Erin for the GRE and these topics are not included. From where can I get the number to post my essay? Natasha
