  1. Excuse me sir, but how can you say that ALL these placements are better than the universities I mentioned above? This is absolutely unfair!! Autonoma, ETH Zurich, Trento, Tor Vergata, Trinity Dublin are better then Nottingham Bristol or Essex? I'm not even sure that Rice is better then those. Supposing that my faculy are not trying to sabotage me, and also the other student I talked to after, those institution have a good (at least) reputation. Also look at various rankings. Moreover, Research Excellence Framework 2014 placed Bristol first for impact, above UCL, LSE, Warwick, Oxford and Cambridge. And Essex 6th for output, below UCL, Cambridge, LSE, Warwick and Oxford. Seems respectable to me, I don't care about the brand. They do research well, maybe the brand is not cool, but they hire good faculty and so on. Obviously classes are not held in The Shard, but is that important? Northwestern, Zurich x2, LSE, Warwick are absolutely strong and contratulations for your place at U Zurich. However, Mr. A.G. from 2011's cohort (summa cum laude) is now doing his PhD at Essex, are you telling me this happened because he was rejected from U Trento? (j/k :P) Thank you again for share
  2. Thanks for your post. I know that Bologna is very good in many respects and thanks to confirm this. My dilemma is only related to the fact that making a MRes in Bristol, for example, would maximize my chances to do PhD also in Bristol. So give up this to join into a two-year program is an hard choice. For example, as an LMEC student you'd be happy to do your PhD at Nottingham / Essex / Bristol / QMUL...? Or the median placement program is even better? For example... I honestly consider at least Nottingham and Essex by far better than ETH Zurich (although worse than the University of Zurich, but obviously it is another institution). ETH Zurich maybe is in the top 10 worldwide for chemistry (I don't know) but I wouldn't say that they do economics better than Essex... Looking at Repec and so on. So for me ETH Zurich is a worse placement than Essex. Supposed (and I don't know if I'm right) that LSE, Oxford, Tilburg, UCL, U Zurich, Essex, Pompeu Fabra, and so on are good placements, how many students go there or in similar place I might have missed after LMEC? Thank you again!
  3. For academia, I'm almost sure (looking at ranking and opinions) that between Nottingham ~ Essex and the other program I mentioned, just regarding academia, there is a considerable gap. As far I know: Queen Mary has a good record of PhD student. Southampton economics and econometrics good. Nottingham, like UEA, is very good in experimental and behavioural. Essex, good in general and very good in micro, IO.. I know that people interested in a doctorate usually are a minority, but there are programs which lead the majority of the cohort to PhD (MRes in general, and at a guess also Bologna). In Bologna some courses are held together with LMEC students and PhD students (like MRes in UK). Sounds good to me!
  4. Thank you Sir. Nottingham, honestly, is not my first choice even if I chose the UK (don't care so much about behavioural). Moreover, if so few students choose to continue for a PhD well... Maybe is not my place. My best choices for the UK maybe are MRes Essex (gap) MRes QMUL or MSc Economics and Econometrics Southampton (gap) Bristol... However, even if you don't know personally Bologna, do you think that placements linked above are comparable with the UK universities that you know? Honestly seems to me unexpectedly strong. Essex, QMUL, ... would be (even) better?
  5. Hi everyone, I need an advice. I've been admitted into Bologna MSc Economics (LMEC), and I have also some offers from reputable UK universities such Nottingham, Essex, Bristol, Southampton... All one year program (instead in Bologna two), some programs are MSc other MRes. My question is... Bologna should be compared with which UK universities? It worth the extra year? My goal is to get admitted in a good PhD program in Europe. Here Bologna placement from various year: LMEC students admitted to prestigious programs! - LMEC - Laurea Magistralis in Economics - Università di Bologna LMEC students admitted to prestigious programs! - LMEC - Laurea Magistralis in Economics - Università di Bologna Students admitted to prestigious graduate programs! - LMEC - Laurea Magistralis in Economics - Università di Bologna Is this placement comparable with UK universities listed above? Thank you in advance for your suggestions.
