  1. I was in a similar position a couple of years earlier and as far as I had inquired back then from the Tilburg students, it is possible to get a letter after your MPhil and move to top 20/30 schools in the US. But I was told that it is bit difficult and around 50% of the students eventually stay for their own PhD programs while only a few top candidates move to better schools. The ones who moved were possibly at the top of their class in terms of grades. I also got the impression that things keep changing with their research master program so better connect to the 'current' students and ask for opinions.
  2. Do you know what happened to candidates who applied for joint program in financial economics at Chicago econ department? I haven't heard yet.
  3. I am waitlisted at Duke, so it is legit. I am not the one who posted in GC, btw.
  4. Same here. I didn't know admissions come out on Sundays. Also, isn't end of Jan decisions earlier than the usual from UChicago?
  5. I was under the impression that 5 year is the norm, but when I look at finance job market candidates at few US schools (UCLA Anderson for example), I see that many of them entered the program in 2011 and are graduating in 2017. Thank you very much for your responses. That was helpful!
  6. Thank you for the replies! That was helpful....
  7. Hi all, I have a question regarding PhD stipends. I see that many US programs (at least at places I've applied) provide fellowship/assistance for only four years of the program. Given that 6-year time period to graduation is becoming the norm in many schools, I was wondering how do students finance themselves? Thank you.

  9. Wharton Finance applicant here and my app says 'ready for review' as well. I think Wharton Finance has already sent interview invites for finance so I guess I am out. It was a long shot anyway!
  10. Thank you for the response. That was helpful!
  11. Thank you for your response and special thanks on behalf of Urch members for your 1000th post! I finished this UK postgrad course roughly 4 years back and I was able to get a letter from my thesis advisor stating that "Mr. XX can be placed at top 1% of the class.....". The letter doesn't say anything about individual grades except for the position in class and that I have produced a thesis of distinction quality. Do you think sending this from my email address to the PhD co-ordinator would be helpful? I am not in touch with this Lecturer now so it is not possible to ask him to send it directly to the co-ordinator. P.S. I have NOT used this letter for PhD applications now. I used this letter 2 years back to pursue European Research master (currently pursuing). All my letters for PhD programs come from my second master program.
  12. Hi Urchins, I was contacted by a PhD program coordinator (from one of my dream schools) asking for grade explanation on my transcripts. My transcript doesn't explain the grades (UK postgraduate degree) and hence I am wondering how to respond to his/her email. Should I find information online (WES etc.) to see how to convert it myself or just respond saying it is not available? I would like to take your opinion and respond appropriately so please offer your thoughts! Thank you very much. P.S. Does the reception of email signal anything positive/negative about my application? I apologise if this question is stupid- that's just the usual post-application anxiety talking! I would regardless like to know what you think ;)

  14. Thank you both for the response. Just out of curiosity- are there schools in the US (top 20 range) that roll out offers in January?
