  1. Hi, I work with doctoral students at one of the top 5 management schools. They seem pretty unhappy and stressed. The professors demand a lot from them, which I know makes their training top notch, but has taken a toll on them (for example, they get sick often). I worry about burn out for them. I am considering applying to management/OB programs next year (micro focus), but am worried about quality of life issues. Do lower ranked schools (like top 25 or top 50) maybe have better quality of life than the top 5, for example? Or do rankings not contribute to this issue? Is there anyway to tell, other than in interviews? Thanks.
  2. Hi, I believe the schools know that there are conflicts (I'm guessing you're micro OB). Columbia, NYU, and Haas OB/Management departments all have the same visit day this year! I think some will have make up days, so definitely let them know about your conflict and see if they'll work with you. Best of luck!
  3. NYU Stern has a pre-doctoral program as well.
  4. Hi, has anyone attended this program? I have a lot of questions about it, since there isn't a ton of info online. Thanks.
  5. Hi, I'm interested in applying to Management/OB PhD programs (micro) for fall of 2017 entry. I have read that in the social sciences, it is not uncommon for prospective applicants to reach out to POIs prior to applying to see if they are taking on any new advisees in the upcoming year and to have a brief exchange about research interests. I have also read that this sort of attempted dialogue is frowned upon in other fields. Is this common/helpful in OBM programs -- or should it be avoided? A second question that I have: If a person has several research interests and those interests are not necessarily connected, should they all be tackled in a SOP with several faculty members mentioned by interest? Or should a person focus on one (or maybe two, if connected) interests? I'm having trouble figuring out what a successful SOP can accomplish without being too narrow or wide in focus. I know I'm early, but these questions have been lingering!
