  1. I talked to him about it and discussed a list with him that included programs from the top 10, and he told me "they may take you". but they did not. that was three years ago. I am applying again this year.
  2. Thank you for your response. Yes guvenen taught me an advanced topics class and i think i gave him a good impression.
  3. Thank for advice. So you think the list is ok except for berkeley and austin? How anout adding virginia?
  4. Thanks A lot! I am hesitant to retake the gre. I already took it 3 times and always 160 on the quant. For the math, i could register for advanced math classes at uv amsterdam while i do my masters but phd admissions will only see that i am registered, , not the grades because the deadline is early as you know.
  5. Hi! I am planning to apply to PhD programs this fall. I need an advice on which BEST programs I am likely to (or not) get admitted to. Here is my profile: BA in Economics from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities (CGPA=3.89) (I did 40% of the credits in a community college with GPA 3.94, the rest was in Minnesota I got 3.858, so combined is 3.89). GRE Score: Quant: 160, verbal: 159, AWA: 4.0 Math Classes: Calc 1(A),2(A), Linear Algebra& Differential Equations (A-), Multivariate Calculus (A), Advanced Calculus 1 (B+). Graduate: I am starting an MSc in economics at University of Amsterdam in 2 weeks. LOR: One from Fatih Guvenen (UMN), probably the other two will come from my professors at University of Amsterdam. Research Experience: Not really academic, but I worked as an economic analyst for a small financial advisory firm for 14, months, and I assume the master's program would include some research work besides the Thesis. Age at application: 29, Nationality: Egypt. I have prepared a preliminary list: UC Berkeley, UT Austin, U British Columbia, Stockholm School of Economics, Oxford, Tinbenergen Institute in Holland, University of Bonn in Germany, University of Mannheim. So what is up with this situation? What should I add, and what should I omit? Thank You!
  6. Hi, I am inquiring about the best Mphil-PhD economics programs in Australia. In terms of quality and funding opportunities. I have a BA in economics from the University of Minnesota, and I should have MSc in economics from the University of Amsterdam by next summer. Thanks for help.
  7. Hey People, I am planning to retake the GRE later this year. I took it once and i scored 160 on the Quantitative. I want to score higher (at least 162). So What study material do you recommend? I tried Kaplan, and it obviously sucked.
  8. I would, without hesitation, go with LSE. This school is top of the top for economics.
  9. Thank you Ineke! Do you think it is possible to transfer from the MSc to the Mphil at Tilburg? Also, you did not give your opinion on University of Amsterdam.
  10. Hey Everyone! I received two offers; one from Tilburg University and one from University of Amsterdam for admission to MSc in economics. My goal is to apply for a top PhD (economics) program afterwards. Which one should I accept? Background: I have a BA in economics from the University of Minnesota (2013). Thanks!
