  1. Guys, please take a look at my personal statement for Fulbright scholarship and give advice on how it can be improved further.Every recommendation is welcome. Please tell your opinion. Can this essay be selected. Cheers, When I was whimpering for a bicycle that my father could not afford to buy that he had promised, I did not have a clue that initial interest for my future occupation was being founded at age 7. A couple of years later a sentence in high school geography book reminded me of that bicycle. “Developed countries produce and export most of the industrial products we are using today such as electronic devices, household goods, sports vehicles, toys, etc”, was written in the book. This time I vividly understood why that foreign-made bicycle was so expensive and many underprivileged children like me were deprived of such products. It was when I portrayed myself at industrial sector with a desire to make such products affordable to low-income families. 2 years after I read that sentence, in 2010, I was already a fresh student of BSc in Organization and Management of Industry at the Azerbaijan State University of Economics. Thankfully, because of high matriculation exam score, I was granted full scholarship by our government, otherwise, it would not be possible for me to study due to my family’s poor financial situation. My undergraduate years were full of hindrances that I had to overcome. One of the most challenging periods for me was when I lost my father in 2013. It had a devastating effect on my educational and personal life. However, that situation forced me to learn to stand on my own feet. As I was the only man in my family, I had to take all responsibilities on my shoulders. In other words, I had to take care of my family and study simultaneously and it helped me to discover my capabilities as a family leader. I started working at one of the local cafes as a waiter after the classes till 11:00 p.m. with no day-off. Although my needs were holding me back to progress in my field, I managed to win this scuffle. As the university program lacked practical experience, I decided to search for internship programs. Soon, I was selected among many students to summer internship program at the Central Bank of Azerbaijan Republic (CBAR) which was my first professional experience. Working at the Financial Management department, I was involved in different projects on supervision on implementation of budget, automatization of processes, budget and financial planning at the CBAR. As financial knowledge is crucial for industry professionals, I attended many training programs and conferences that were conducted by different departments of CBAR. This experience at the country's main financial institution instilled confidence in me to be a forefront professional in my field. In 2014, the same year I was writing my diploma thesis, Azerbaijan government declared that year “the year of industry”. The theme of my thesis was “Integration of Azerbaijan’s industry to the world economy”. That year industrial enterprises were held many “open door” days which allowed me to get good statistical data for my project and at the same time to get more insight to the country's industry. I discovered that even though we have sufficient raw materials and finance to improve industry, many sectors are in great need of sophisticated manufacturing and management systems developed by proficient experts. After all that hard work my thesis received “A” mark and was published on the university’s website. Military service was the next intriguing period for me as I served at border face to face with enemy troops. Especially, last 3 months as a unit commander was the most difficult time for me when my unit of 7 soldiers had to guard air border of a village under high tension. Although we accomplished the mission successfully, it took 24 more days to complete our formal service. Consequently, I missed the scholarship program provided by Ministry of Education which I had planned to apply for a year ago. 3 months after completing the military service I was offered a job in Serbia, Belgrade through a 5-month trainee program as a technical support specialist at ForTrade Ltd, a company offering solutions for online trading in financial markets, which is headquartered in England, London. Here I was responsible for assisting and consulting clients on technical as well as financial issues. When I was selected as a team leader, when there were 2 months left to complete the program, I took a huge responsibility as I had to lead the team of 8 technical support specialists at an international company. While this position exposed me to first-hand experience in both technical and business world, which are combined in industrial engineering, it made me realize that I need further education in this field. Although with this background in my country one can be considered a young professional, I still feel myself incomplete without a decent Master degree. Because of flaws in our manufacturing sector, education in this field also has drawbacks. Therefore, I need to enhance my knowledge and skills further which education in the USA will do it. All in all, having a goal in my mind to improve Azerbaijan’s industry, a Master's degree in Industrial engineering in the USA will undoubtedly help me to bring new know-hows to our community. My core aims after returning to my country include founding a consulting firm to help enterprises in optimizing and improving manufacturing processes and to provide free courses to students such as operational research, quality engineering, optimization which are unheeded at many of our university curricula and hopefully making bicycles reachable to every child.
