  1. Hi there, I started to study for the GRE AWA. Right now focusing on the Issue Task. I tried to use my newly arrived GRE words to spice it up. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Here you go: Claim: In order to help small businesses thrive, government should play a minimal role in private business matters. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position. Most of the time small businesses start out with little money to pay all the cost associated with building a business. This can pose a serious risk to viability of a newly founded business. Fortunately, government can create funds to bolster where companies lack. Moreover, government officials’ routine examinations enhance the quality that customers get. However so much intrusion by the governmental officials and interminable bureaucracy negatively affects the growth of these small businesses. Therefore I contend that the influence of government to be moderated to a degree such that while reaping the benefits of financial help provided by the government, the progress of small companies should not be impaired by the strict policies. Today it is really tough to start out your own business as a fresh graduate. Preferably, you need to have experience in marketing, financing and know the intricate processes of designing the actual product or service, but this picture is not complete until you can find the necessary money to deal with costs of doing business. Luckily, government can step in to help you to deal with the costs, should it finds your business plan feasible. However, the word “feasible” is vague and the meaning is contingent upon the exercised economical model by the current government. For example in the extreme versions of communist regimes, private economy practices are limited under the supervision of government. In such communities small business can succumb before reaching maturity. Therefore one can extrapolate that while getting financial help from government is definitely important, the extent of the support or who gets the help depends on the economic policies. Having money to deal with the initial costs is necessary for small business to burgeon, yet not sufficient. Unless you can maintain a specific level of quality in your goods, the customer will slowly turn their heads away from your company. Most small business start off with the intention of providing high quality of service/products to their customers since the success depends on costumers’ willingness to pay for the goods. However somewhere along the road the quality standards may deteriorate. This may be due to, as serious as, a major flaw in the business plan or simple as minor mistakes done by the employees. To combat this, government officials can sporadically visit companies to examine their line of production or any details that might be associated with the quality of a certain good. No examination, on the other hand, is to let the quality of products to diminish which in turn may cause sales to plummet. Another way to enhance the longevity of a business can be achieved by employing smart and fair marketing policies managed by a committee consisting of government officials and the people who actually work in the sector. Just as it is important to satisfy customer and motivate them to spend money, it is also very important to make sure customers are receiving what they are advertised. Without government control over the marketing, fraudulent firms can voraciously promote their goods and services by capitalizing on the psychological problems of customers or using celebrity figures to galvanize teenagers into shopping rampage. While it is hard to retain an objective perspective towards subjects which involves negotiating with our own socio-cultural background, a committee filled distinct voices can definitely deal with the risk of not being able to appreciate range of actions. By now it should be clear that the degree of authority exercised by the government is a deciding factor if we are to aver that government should have a role in private business matters. Aristotle believed that, in order to be virtuous, a man must found a balance between extremes or vices. An analogy can be made with the issue at hand. A certain amount of government funding and monitoring is pivotal to success of small business, the excess of it certainly arrest their development. There is no generic formulation for each business. Some businesses require thorough examinations while others merely need financial to jump start their company.
