  1. anyone heard from University of Illinois Urbana Champaign agricultural economics phd program?
  2. I have not heard back as well. Hope it doesnot mean that it is an implicit rejection :( But I saw a post on Gradcafe stating s/he has been waitlisted. How do you figure out you are waitlisted??
  3. Congrats!!! Did you receive a funded offer? I have applied to UMass Amherst as well but didn't hear back from them yet. I think my application got delayed because I didn't realize I need to send in official transcript to them since all other schools only asks for unofficial ones during application and only requires official ones when you enroll. They notified me last week and I sent it out right away. :/
  4. Anyone heard back from Boston U? When do they usually send out their offers?
  5. Anyone here with offer from UMN Twin Cities Applied Economics program? I was wondering what they let you know regarding funding ...
  6. Faced similar situation and I got into a program this year which I have gotten in earlier with funding. I guess to get in again you would have to demonstrate that you have done something productive over the last few years and that your profile have improved from what it was when you previously applied. Hope I made sense there.
  7. Of course. First round offers mean they got picked first so would be offered funding first. Then if anyone declines, they send out second round of offers
  8. My two cents - If you are applying to econ programs, I think the additional 4 points on your quant score is more valuable than the 0.5 on the AWA. So use the scores from this year when applying to grad schools.
  9. Oh congrats man! If you don't mind sharing - did you get a personalized email from the department or checked the website for the offer? also when did you submit the application? I am just wondering why I didn't make the first cut, whether it was because I submitted my application right on the deadline or because my application was not strong enough for the first cut haha
  10. From gradcafe it seems UMD Ag and Resource Econ department have started sending out offers for their PhD program. Looks like I didn't make it to the first batch of offers. :( Anyone else applied to this program and have heard back?
  11. "Unfamiliarity of letter writers" - is this a big issue? Because most international applicants would have referees who may not be well-known ...
  12. Well let me briefly share my background first- I have 3 years research experience in an internationally reputed research institute, along with all A's in college-level algebra, calculus and analytical geometry and applied and theoretical math courses, and a masters in economics from the US with a decent gpa. I would say my lacking is that I have an average GRE score. Having said all that I don't know what is the deal with AU with all these early offers but I did apply to their PhD program before (a couple of years back) and got in with full funding and the works. Maybe in my case that played its part (??) and my application have only gotten better with the added 3 years of research experience that I have now. Another thing that might have helped my case is that there have been a couple of students in the program who are near to/have graduated from AU coming from the college I did my undergrad from.
  13. "Mostly Harmless Econometrics: An Empiricist's Companion" by Angrist and Pischke is definitely a good book to keep handy ...
  14. Ok so the application season is off to a good start for me. Received an email (JAN 09) from the Graduate Division at American University, D.C. with an admission offer for the Economics PhD program. No mention of funding though.
  15. Hey all! Applied to 8 program (US and UK combined), plus have 4 admission offers from last year (funding will be re-evaluated with current cohort of applicants). Good luck everyone!
