  1. Hi everyone, not sure this warrants a post but I am very interested in your opinions. I have received offer letter from a UC and while it is tied for first on my list, I am still awaiting to hear back from NYU and others. I received an email from the UC asking if I have reached a decision yet (they knew I was waiting) and said “the month is ending this week and we need to move on”. Uh... what does this mean? And why for the love of God is NYU Stern, UWashington and (for completeness) SMU taking so long?
  2. Thank you for your reply! I will definitely check into the possibility of B-school chairs/co-chairs when I go visit Fordham soon. I definitely do not want to commit to simply the financial industry, so for that reason alone I do not want to choose the school. It was my understanding that SMU is #55 in the most recent rankings, while UCR sits in the upper 60s, would that be correct? Based on ranking alone, my professors were saying I should go to the one that is higher ranked, but I am unsure if at that level it makes much of a difference.
  3. Hello, First - congratulations to everyone who has received offers, and good luck to those still waiting on decisions! I have received three fully funded offers from UC Riverside, Fordham, and Southern Methodist University. My interests are somewhat widespread: econometrics, financial economics, development, and experimental/behavior. Career goals also somewhat widespread, particularly because I understand that coming from a school outside top-50 will probably not land me TT academic posts easily. I would like to work for a public sector entity, Federal Reserve perhaps, and/or industry jobs that are research oriented. Honestly, if I could do that plus be an adjunct somewhere, I would be happy with being that well rounded. (Otherwise, academics in the sense of TT and department chair will still be the dream). Would anyone with experience regarding these departments be able to shed some light on how they stack upcomparatively? Thank you!
  4. Has anyone heard from NYU Stern or UWashington, or know when their decisions are coming out? Thanks!
  5. I have not, but I believe the consensus is that they are still deciding. So, hopefully in the next two weeks they come out with their first round. Side note to general posters: why don’t we network with each other outside of the forum, like through LinkedIn or something?
  6. Hello, I was recently admitted to two of the schools I applied to this round for Econ phd: Oregon State U AE and UCR Economics (both full funding/insurance/tuition waiver). I am waiting for other schools to get back to me, but I am so happy I got into a program! I was hoping I could get general impressions from people who might know anything about these programs. For example, I understand UCR is on the heterodox side but am still unclear as to the reputation it has. UC School but still very looked down upon? (Another thing, I am planning to commute there from one of the smaller communities next to Anaheim; am I better off living close by?) I am visiting both schools soon and had some questions prepared, but what types of questions would more experienced forum posters suggest I ask? Thanks!

  8. Admissions and graduate School are very foreign to me so reading all of these posts has given me a really great insight, thanks! would anyone recommend emailing a department if I received an admission letter but no word regarding funding? Further, what sort of questions should I be asking the programs I’ve been admitted into? I don’t want to sound foolish when I ask things, and I feel like asking how the general area around the school in may be foolish. I’m an international student so this is a big step, and I am also bringing my wife who will be working, so I’d like to make the right choice. So far, have gotten two admissions, one being a fully funded, 18k/year stipend at one of my lower hanging fruit schools. Best of luck to everyone, and thanks for reading!
