FWIW, you can look at UMD's website and it says they typically admit 120 applicants over the course of the season and the incoming class is usually 20-25. So I imagine they will run through the waitlist many times.

I am also on the waitlist for funding at Pitt. They told me that in previous years everyone who was admitted received funding eventually.

I got waitlisted at UMD and I really want this offer. Hopefully, the list is not too long or there are a lot of declines.

Also want to throw out that while TT in top 50 is obviously very difficult for most people in most schools. I think that if you temper your expectations most people can find a job in academia, industry, or govt which is better paying that what most people will make, and be more rewarding than most peoples' work. For this reason, try not to worry too much guys. Just getting into a PhD progam puts you in a select group with a lot of good options as long as you love economics!

Hi all, visit days are coming up and I was wondering if anyone else was nervous. I have been invited to a few visit days but for two of them i am either waitlisted or admitted but waitlisted for funding. I was wondering if anyone has any insight on what usually visit days tend to be (and how formal or informal meetings with faculty might be), because I'm slightly nervous.

I'm in the same situation. Accepted at UNC, waitlisted at UVA. Not sure which I'd prefer at the moment.

I just want to say that I personally talked with an admissions guy at a school which has a similar rank to UVA, and he said that typically 75% of every class was originally waitlisted. So if its your top choice, I'd say most likely you have a strong chance.

Just got an email saying I am waitlisted at UVA. However, I was still invited to visit day. Is this typical?

Slaughterhouse Five is on my reading list as well. I am currently reading The Signal and the Noise by Nate Silver, and I have also recently read Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman and Misbehaving by Richard Thaler.

Dont worry about UVA yet. No one has been accepted there yet.

If it helps, I was told the waitlist is very long. So you might be on that.
