  1. hmmm i love jungle juice...i know u do too ...mmmm
  2. coongrayts..let us have ur profile
  3. ok overunderchiever thx for clarifying all that up ...if u'd said that u took the test in march and already have a awa score with u ....i wud have sounded the alarm on u ....but u gave me no such chance..not that im out to malign ppl here but wud appreciate fi everyone just said their scores as they were...naturally we have no proof to verify what ppl come in here n say ..... anyway i have no such misgivings about ur abiltiy anymore...u sound liek one of those who sure had luck on her side...but more than that i see an innate abiltiy in u to crack these standardized tests under timed conditions...not many dare use the method of elimination on math ques during a gmat test... no practice exams as such mimic the content the gmat tests ...but u say thats all u used so all i can say is " HAIL THE GENIUS" :) good luck with all ur appz...
  4. how od u knwo ur awa score was 6.. maybe im just being skeptical....i dont grudge u ur score but even the strategy uve described above of how u prepared all sounds very GENERIC ....(read made up) either ure not expresing urself well enough or my own comprehension is lacking so did u take the gmat in march (no one else answer on his behalf)
  5. with ur score u shd aim much higher than umass level ...
  6. natedog, guess if u pay ets enough to reveal their patented scoring alogirthm, perhaps then the mystery might be revealed... should i cry "im a victim of unfair practices by this ETS beast"
  7. its not assuming if u do or not...its trying to test whether u do or not...if not itll assume u dont and will birng the level down subsequetly...anyway just a theory of mine...
  8. So Whjat Wa Ur Final Score ...600 Sometihng?
  9. I GOT 600 WITH QUANT 49 AND VERBAL 27 ..NOW IM ALSO WONDERING how come ???
  10. think i now who u r...the russian math gene sure worked at ur level...good uck with everytihng
  11. im only trying to help u guys out by giving u all info i can based on my experiecne...so your attitude should be " lets brace ourselves for even this should it happen" ..its up to u to judge the situation on the merit of the empirical evidence I present...3 attempts and enough practice sessions in between should be proof enough of my ability to discern an easy verbal bin from a hard one...maybe i just got plain unlucky with the verbal that day ... so guys just keep ur mind open about every posibility...its very possible that since scoring high on verbal brings u a much greater reward than scoring high on math (with a mediocre verbal)..that after a 45+ math, it starts u off with a killer verbal to detemrine if it finds u a "balanced" testtaker or one of the manym illions whose math is better than thier verbal ....not saying that it doesnt give u breathing space from there by bringing the level down to something more manageable but if u do survive the initial onslaught (whether by design or by fluke), that helps it determine your "core" verbal score that much sooner (beyond whcih it is just mere fine-tuning of the numbers) and as far as I am aware, saying that u start off average 550 level in both sections is a "supposed fact" mentioned in study prep guides...is there any wirtten proof that ETS actually says this...or for that matter the fact that 9 ques in math and 11 ques in verbal are experimental....the ETS doesnt categorically say that..after all the testing system is their own proprietary algorithm and while im on the subject of gmat, let me alert you to another titbit... when u start off math and by the 10th or 11th question, u feel ure having an easy ride,,,it means that somewhere along u got a few wrong at the beginning ...coz theoretically if u were to get everything right until the 10th or 11th. then the difficulty level at that stage for the next few questions is supposed ot be so high that either ure a math wiz with a natural flair for problem solving or else one of the few gifted ones who have a knack for blindly clicking their way through to a 51 quant...ofcourse the level comes down somewhere aftetr the 15th to the 18th question by which time it has zeroed in on ur ability level, after which it tries to see how well you handle relatively easier questions from different math areas...which is why at that stage people are sometimes suprised how easy questions can become and actually start wondering if they messed up somewhere...but dont let easy questions at the end throw u off... at that stage, chances are if u mess up a question from a math area on whcih u havent been tested, ure gonna lose more points than whatud earn from a harder second question on a topic which has already been covered earlier in the test... some girl just mailed me saying she got a quant 36 verbal 39 ...giving her a 620.... so did she get a lower than avg verbal bin ,,,who knows..but she sure did not have to spend too much time on the first 10 unlike me
  12. thx for ur comment sybersport but basically what happened in verbal was this... i ran totally short of time so by the time i did dip from the 750 to 550 level (my verbal range of ability if u wanna call it so) i was anyway blindly clicking through the choices..so even if icould have easily answered questions at that level, i just didnt have the time to do so..cudnt even read the last 80-liner Rc...something about supernovas...just b;indly clicked C for all answers hoping to get to the remaining Crs and Scs ...finally barely finsihed with a second to spare...that must have all damaged my score pretty bad....
  13. u got owned on the verbal coz its my belief that when the ocmp ascetained u as a 47 q scorer, it threw the hardest verbal at u ...had u scored a bit lower in quant u cud have had an easier verbal ride.... so what does all this say "that perhaps its in ur best interests to not score all that hgih on the quant so that u can crack the verbal "...if that makes any sense :) anyway for more on the same theory, read my post gmat exam score post under this same forum
  14. my tryst with the gmat is finally over..alas it wasnt to be a tryst with destiny....in the end my hurriedness and lack of time through the verbal offset whatever I could achieve in math....without going into a lot of detail, I will just point out the solid facts as I see them...the fact that ive given the exam 3 times and gotten diff scores evrytime should be evidence of my ability to judge the beast and analyse it for the benfit of others who are yet to take the plunge... I consider myself the king of Sentence correction but the GMat sure knows how to come up with the most twisted of them...my very first question, an SC had me wondering how much harder things could get... so here is my belief whcih I didnt believe in earlier but let 3 tests attempts be testimony to what I am about to say... IF THE COMPUTER JUDGES YOU TO BE A 750 BRACKET GUY BASED ON YOUR MATH, THEN IT GIVES YOU AN OPPORTUNITY TO AIM FOR THE SAME IN VERBAL .IT IS UP TO YOU TO MAKE THE MOST OF IT or BLOW IT I BLEW IT !!!!!! understand what im saying -- if ur math section goes mediocre as judged by the computer(25-40) then u start off easy in verbal (like I did the last two times -- easy modifier/paraleelism etc) and can potentially work your way up to a 750 BUT IF YOU DO WELL ON THE MATH , BRACE YOURSELF FOR A ROUGH GRIND ON THE VERBAL FROM THE WORD GO WHY?...because everyone who takes the GMAT should know that your performance on the verbal is given more weight than your performance on the math...in other words a 49 Q but 37 V (=690) counts less than a 41Q 47V ( >750) which means that starting out in the verbal, the computer tests your threshhold and sees if you are the meat that 750ers are made of..unfortunately the comp figured out later i wasnt when i started being real hardpressed for time the first 2 SCs took me almost 5 minutes which was followed by a dense 80 liner and what is the first question in there - an inference question., followed by an application question, then "author suggests which of the following" (inferecne again) followed by "the author refers to kines 14-27 in order to show" (some sitter HA !) that was my first little packet of 5 verbal questions...did not get CR until the 11th question...in between were some real killer SCs and im confident I got them right...it's just that they ate up a huge chunk of time from 20 question or so, with just 25 min left :( it was a battle agasint time...did not get time to read stuff properly ,,,CR coud have been easily cracked coz the arguments themselves werent tough to point out logical gaps in.....just figuring out the wording of the CR question thy were asking was the real killer ...consider this Which of the following would C use to counter A;s arguemnt that B's argument is invalid - this is not what it was...but basically the wording of the question stem was such that I had to read it ten times to figure out if it was a weaken or strengthen the argument question.. books that worked: Kaplan 800 - a must if u wanna improve your CR n RC skills...decent for math as well ...does have tough problems.. OG - mimcs the verbal section of the GMAT better than it does the math....however 750 plus verbal is a different animal altogether....but do read through [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] RCs to improve ur verbal skills.....read those at leisure and work with the tougher RC questions at your own pace,.,,sooner or later RCs will become ur best friend like they did for me.... I went into this exam feeling confident about my CR skills ..all thanks to kaplan 800 and how it lays out everyhting nicely... of no help are princeton and arco... ive rambled on for a bit but in closing i wanna say that I mgiht not have cracked the exam on paper but in my heart I know I came very close to killing the beast....even a 40 n over in the verbal with my 47 Q wud have seen me sail past 700..and a balance of 47q 47 v wud have, well made me a part of the elite 750 club....but ALAS it wasnt to be.. but i wanna put this exam behind me now (atleast for a few yrs) and move on with life.... email me at vbanerji@gmail.com if u wanna know stuff....
  15. sesame what bank u working with..what sector...pm me..ill tell u good ways to start.
