  1. You don't need a PhD in Econ to "read economics papers". Audit a few graduate courses at your current uni and see if you actually like the materials and whether they can help you make a leap in your Law and Econ research agenda.
  2. Sure, you can apply for Tilburg MRes or Tinbergen after your MSc Econ. Tuition fees at Dutch universities are mostly set by the government, hence not in the control of the individual institutions.
  3. Given your interests, OSU AEDE is probably a better choice.
  4. Definitely check out Caltech, strong in micro theory.
  5. Go for a PhD in Finance. Retake the GRE. 160Q is simply unacceptable.
  6. Why would you apply to only two programs anyway? If for whatever reason (application fee, personal relationships, etc.) you can only apply to two, delay your application by one year and see if things will work out.
  7. Avoid applying there if you are not an MSPE student at UIUC. Rumor has it that they admit at least five students each year from their own master's program.

EU schools put much more weight on scores (GRE, GPA, language) during admission process and so students with exceptionally high grades and GRE scores can aim high in EU instead. What would you have done differently? Try to build some connections with profs in universities that I would like to attend through undergrad advisors. Also take PhD Micro during summer sessions in another institution since my school does not allow undergrads to take or even audit the course.
  9. Congratulations on your acceptances! An MSc in Statistics will not necessarily send a strong positive signal to the admissions committee when you apply for the PhD in the future, especially in a place like LSE where you need to put a lot of efforts to get a distinction.
  10. You should be upfront with your program about your medical condition. I'm pretty sure most schools can cater to your needs. As for comparing the two programs, the difference between 55 and 63 is trivial. Go for the program in which you can find the most professors doing what you want to do.

  18. Hi all! First post here. I'm applying for econ phd program for 2020 intake and i ran into a problem. My uni offers a combined intermediate micro+macro econ theory course, titled "Intermediate Economics", rather than two separated ones. It was intensive and really challenging for all the students. The course content is given below. I'm worried that this might not be enough for econ phd application, since most programs require two courses in intermediate theories, though I've learnt a lot from this course and through self study. Any suggestions/thoughts on this? Should I take some other courses to make up for the repercussions brought by this one? Thank you all for your help! :)
