  1. Don't really know how it compares with Master's programs abroad tbh (especially if funding is not a concern). I know ISI places almost all the students that apply (which is usually 6-7 per year), with the median placement at around a low top 20 on average (some years, such as this year, it is better and some worse). I don't think the entrance is too hard to crack (I wasn't even an econ major and I passed so that should tell you something).
  2. You should strongly consider the MSQE program at ISI Delhi. For the past three years, the program has placed 1 student per year in Harvard/MIT, and for over a decade around 2-3 students per batch (each batch having ~20-25 students) have ended up getting top 20 admits. I speak from personal experience - the program is fabulous. (Also, you get paid to study there - there's a stipend and no fees)
  3. When do the admission committees go over all the applicants? How long do they take to come to a decision? When do they start informing applicants (informally or formally)?
  4. Thanks for the response. It is not American, but it is the best program in my country. I guess that makes it somewhat well-known. How would a committee evaluate a GPA like mine, since they would likely not have many applicants from the same undergraduate institution as mine? I ask this because I'm curious how they would figure out 1. What a great GPA would be from my institution and 2. How tough it is to get great grades in that institution.
  5. I have an engineering undergraduate degree from a generally well-known college in a developing country, but with a GPA which is good but not stellar (some of my courses grades are bad, some decent, some great). I also have a Master's in economics with the best grades. I have two questions - first, would admission committees (top 10, top 20, or top 30) care about my undergraduate grades at all? If yes, how would they evaluate my grades (given that they would not have seen too many applicants with the same undergraduate degree)?
  6. Thanks for replying. This is very useful.
  7. I found out on this thread that schools often have a TOEFL cutoff (higher than the 100 that is advertised) using which they auto-reject applicants. That thread's respondent is a top 40 AP, and he/she says they use 105-108. Is there something similar auto-reject filter at the top 10? If yes, what is the cutoff like?
