  1. PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: Top 10 institution in my home country Undergrad GPA: 3.8/4.0, Major in Econ, Minor in Math. I graduated a semester early Type of Grad: the same institution as undergrad Grad GPA: 3.93, M.S. in Econ (not finished yet) GRE: V166/Q170/WA4.0 Math Courses: Calc1,2 , Multivariable Calc, Advanced Calc 1, Linear Algebra 1,2 ,Differential Equations, Real Analysis, Numerical Analysis, ect,. Mostly A+/A with two A-s and two B-s(Calc 1 and a computation class; had a hard time catching up on Calc 1, but I think it didn’t matter a lot in the end since I did well on more advanced courses ) Econ Courses: Usual undergrad/grad courses, all A+ except for a B+ on undergrad macro and A- on grad macro (macro is my weakness) Other Courses: Several undergrad statistics courses, mostly A+ with one B+ Letters of Recommendation: I think they were strong/pretty decent at least (but who knows…) Research Experience: Several short term R.A. for professors that I took courses in, 2 monthes research internship at a private finance research institution, two national research competition awards ( work published in conference proceedings) Teaching Experience: T.A. for four undergrad courses Research Interests: Microeconometrics(applied/theory) SOP: Talked mainly about my experience working on the research projects that were awarded at the national competitions and how it motivated me to pursue doctoral studies. Other: Alternate candidate for the Fulbright scholarship (will decline soon) RESULTS: Acceptances: UT Austin($), TAMU(waitlisted for funding) Waitlists: WUSTL(waitlist->rejection) , Wisconsin-Madison(waitlist->rejection), MSU (waitlist->decline), UC Irvine (radio silence, don’t know what happened) Rejections: Yale, Northwestern, UCLA, Cornell, Duke, BC, U of Arizona, Purdue, Georgetown, USC, Rice(declined interview) Pending: UNC Attending: UT Austin Comments: It really frustrated me how so many schools sent out their decisions in several rounds or kept a really long waitlist this year. I was super anxious for the past three months, got a bad insomnia and lost several pounds. I can’t say that I am attending my dream school, but I am happy and grateful that I can continue my studies at a solid department with professors that fit my research interests. What would you have done differently? Nothing in terms of preparation, since I honestly tried my best. Maybe I should have applied to more schools in the top 5~30 range, since I ended up getting outright rejections from many lower ranked schools despite being at least waitlisted/ waiting for several rounds before being rejected from higher ranked programs. I felt that research fit plays an important role in the admission process, especially for students like me who has a specific/quite narrow field of interest.
  2. I'm on the same boat. I haven't been sleeping well since Feb.(because of different time zones, most e-mails from the U.S. arrive at midnight) and my fatigue is through the roof. I am waitlisted on one of my top choice schools and I am just hoping that I will be accepted off the waitlist asap so I can decline my other offer and position on the waitlist....
  3. I think this is (at least partly) because schools are being extra cautious in sending out offers this season due to the limited/uncertain amount of funding. They seem to be admitting students only when they are 100% certain that they have a spot for them and waitlisting others so they can make an offer later, unlike other seasons when they had the capacity to admit more students and see how it goes. But this is just my guess and I just hope that things will move along faster...:( the anxiety from being waitlisted is terrible.
  4. Has anyone heard from UW-Madison? I have received the "application in review" email several weeks ago and heard nothing since then. There is one poster who received the same email and was rejected on the Gradcafe but no updates for me...I emailed the program but they didn't respond. Anyone else in a similar situation?
  5. I really hope there is some movements this week! I have some programs that say they are still reviewing my application and I am waitlisted at one other school as well. Good luck to everyone who are on the same boat :P
  6. Thanks. I hope you hear good news from the waitlisted schools in the upcoming days. Meanwhile, lets hope that UCLA releases their results as soon as they can...XD
  7. I am one of those people who haven't heard back from UCLA and was notified by Wisconsin to wait until April 1st because my application is "still in review". These two schools strictly dominate my other offers so I am really anxious these days...I am trying not to have too much hope but still :(
  8. I'm on the same boat. I really wonder what's happening...this cycle is just so weird.
  9. I also haven't heard from UCLA so I e-mailed UCLA about the status of my application a few days ago. They replied that they were still going through applications so I guess they are still sending acceptances.
  10. I was in the same situation but was rejected last weekend. It may not be a bad sign that you haven't heard back yet...good luck!
  11. I am waiting on UNC, UCLA and U of A, although I will probably decline U of A since I already have a dominating offer. I am also waiting to be confirmed rejection from MSU, Wisconsin and Cornell....
  12. I'm in a similar situation. I am yet to hear from BC, Northwestern, Wisconsin, MSU and some other schools (Cornell, Georgetown, U of Arizona, UNC, UCLA...). I'm considering Wisconsin and MSU as implicit rejections since they seem to have done some interviews after giving out their first round of offers (and in my case, Cornell and Georgetown as well because they seem to have released their waitlists) . It seems that BC gave out their first round of offers just last week, so I think we still have to wait and see if they will release their waitlist/possible second round of acceptances. I am hoping that not hearing from Northwestern is a good sign and maybe we are on to an implicit second round(of being considered for admission?) . It seems that schools are being extra careful not to accept too many students this year, given limited amount of funding and slots. Having that said, I think it is reasonable to expect a lot of movement&changes just before the April 15th deadline. If students with multiple top school offers make their decisions and decline other schools, others in the waitlist will be able to move up&there will be a chain of additional acceptances(or at least I hope so!)
  13. Me neither. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high but it's getting quite hard...🤣
  14. Should I expect IR from Cornell and BC if I have not heard back? There seems to be much fewer acceptances on gradcafe than previous years...
  15. I was in the same situation for WUSTL, but I got an e-mail from a professor informing me that I have been waitlisted. I feel like many schools are sending out fewer offers and waitlisting more students due to increased uncertainty. I am in the same place for Northwestern as well, and I'm still hopeful to hear some positive news from them as well since it was one of my top choices. I am definitely going to contact them to ask about my status if I don't hear anything from them until mid march. I heard that some people couldn't hear anything from them until April last year, which would be very inconvenient and anxiety-provoking...
  16. I believe so, because I received the e-mail after I saw the first(?) post on Gradcafe. My last name starts with K.
  17. I just received an e-mail informing that I have been admitted. They are going to schedule an interview with me within a few weeks(I guess the funding decisions will be made after the interviews??) and I have been invited to a virtual recruiting event on March.
  18. Well it's my speculation based on gradcafe posts, but there are very few acceptances compared to previous years' first waves and all the acceptances were Americans. Also they seemed to have interviewed some students last year so I think it's too early to assume ir just yet
  19. I'm waiting for Cornell, Northwestern and Wisconsin (they don't seem to have contacted internationals yet)
  20. Someone has posted UNC admission on gradcafe...can anyone verify??I have applied but I have not heard anything from them...and it seems really early compared to previous years
  21. Wow I'm impressed how you used the time of anxiety and impatience to do something actually meaningful! I'm checking it out right now and it's very helpful thank you XD
  22. I haven't heard anything from Cornell...but there were only a few posts up on Gradcafe so I am guessing they haven't given out decisions yet:/ maybe the few postings were trolls?
