  1. an argument topic will always have a premise, conclusion and some hidden assumptions, while an issue is usually a simple sentence conveying the authors opinion on that issue. .......................................................... If there is something more to the distinction , then plz let me know thanks in advance cheers
  2. Thanks a lot Fighter and GmatguyIL!!! for ur suggesions and ratings.... it has really helped me a lot. cheers
  3. Iam sorry if my notes were mot clear ..... i think it will help if i solve the first question using these notes c.p of 1 kg cheaper rice=310 paise............... (Rupee1=100 paise) c.p of 1 kg dearer rice =360 paise Mean price=325 paise Now using the rule of Alligation..... (quantity of cheaper rice)/(quantity of dearer rice) = (c.p of dearer)-(mean price)/(meanprice)-(c.p of cheaper) (360-325)/(325-310)=35/15=7/3 They must be mixed in the ratio 7:3. i hope this explains gmatguyIL......... if not then u can refer to the book that i have mentioned. written by RS AGGARWAL. cheers.
  4. It would be gr8 if someone can grade or critique this issue . Thanks in advance
  5. hey incognegro!!! here are 3 alligation problems..... hope u can gan get a general idea of this topic by solving these problems. Rule for alligation if 2 ingradients are mixed in a ratio, then ..... (quantity of cheaper)/quantity of dearer)=c.p of dearer)-(mean price)/(Mean price)-(c.p of cheaper) c.p of cheaper © c.p of dearer (d) mean price (m) (d-m) (m-c) (cheaper quantity): (dearer quantity)= (d-m):(m-c) 1}in wat proportion must rice at Rs 3.10 per kg be mixed with rise at Rs 3.60 kg, so that the mixture be worth Rs 3.25 a kg? 2}how many kg of sugar costing Rs 6.10 per kg, must be mixed with 126kg of sugar costing Rs2.85 per kg, so that 20% may be gained by selling the mixture at Rs 4.80 per kg? 3}in what proportion must water be mixed with spirit to gain 16*2/3 % buy selling it at cost price? hope this helps u .... if incase u have an access to books of indian author RS AGGARWAL then u may find a complete chapter dedicated to alligation or mixture........ chapter # 24 .. page # 340 Name of the book "MATHEMATICS FOR MBA RNTRACE EXAMINATION} ALL THE BEST
  6. Great explanation gmatguyIL....... but this is another explanation with the help of substitution..................... medium=m, large =l,extra large=x, small=s let m=90 therefore s=30....(as s is 1/3 of m) and l=15.......(as l is 1/2 of s) and l=15..(as l=x) total is 30+15+15+90=150 therefore m%=90/150*100=60%
  7. Am also getting the same answer ie 1/7.... looks like there is an error ......................... but iam not sure of there being ny error in the solution set.
  8. Thanks once again gmatgnat!!!!! u were of great help.......... but did u get the answer to the first question?..... the answer given in the solution set here is 1/9, am trying to solve this one but still not getting it.
  9. Thanks for clearing ... gmatgnat!!
  10. 1} In an office the # of cases to be handled each day is divided evenly among p workers.if 1/8th of the workers are absent, and the cases that they would have handled are evenly divided among the workers present, then the increase in the caseload of each workers is ehat fraction of his or her orginal # of cases.? 2}During a sale certain item is sold at a price 40 % below its usual selling price. if the dollar savings on the item is $12, what is its sale price? 3}A slot m/c has an average profit of $600 for each 8 hour shit for the 5 days sunday through thursday, inclusive. if the average per shift profit on friday and saturday is 25% greater than on the other days of the week and the slot m/c is in operation every hour of every day, what is the total weekly profit that the casino makes from the slot m/c? Thanks in advance.
  11. thanks dsk02...... and ymahajan...... but am still not sure bout the 3 question.
  12. Some one pl explain to me the following . Q1} what is the 999th term of the series S? 1) the first term of S are (1+1)^2 ,(2+1)^2,(3+1)^2,(3+1)^2 2) for every x, the xth term of S is (x+1)^2 Q2}If y is a positive integer, what is the remainder when y is divided by 6? 1) the remainder is 1 when y-1 is divided by 6 2) the remainder is 0 when 3y is divided by 6 Q3} How many of the 3 different positive integers a,b& c is divisible by 7? 1) the product of a,b & c is divisible by 3, but only c is divisible by 21. 2) Each of the positive integers is divisible by 3, but only c is divisible by 21. ans:- b,a,b
  13. The question wants us to find out the quantity or the # of people, but they have not mentioned the total # of people the company employs. Even if we try assuming the # of people to be x, and work on both stmts , it does not work.
  14. whu should it be D if u guys can explain it that wud be great!!
  15. Some one plz grade this essay!!! "The rise of multinational corporations is leading to global homogeneity. People everywhere are beginning to want the same products and services , and regional difference are rapidly disappearing” The issue of whether “The rise of multinational corporations is leading to global homogeneity. People everywhere are beginning to want the same products and services , and regional difference are rapidly disappearing” is a controversial one .On the one hand I feel that multinational corporations are not leading to global homogeneity, but on the other hand , there is no doubt that the products been offered by giant corporations are to some extent similar. However in the final analysis I believe that, in spite of the similar products being offered by the multinationals, it is ultimately the demand of a consumer that varies from place to place, and is the prime factor for the regional differences, thus maintaining the regional disparity. One reason for my belief is that demand for the products offered by the multinational corporations , to a large extent comes from the metros, or cosmopolitan locations,{which contribute to a small fraction of the entire country…. And also the whole world },people from the other part of the country prefer to purchase their own conventional products , with only a handful of modern products. Another reason for my belief is that regional differences is primarily based on factors such as geographical, political, and financial differences, and secondly on individual buying pattern, likes / dislikes, tastes , preferences, purchasing power, etc …. And this disparity will not disappear in spite of the claimed homogenous products manufactured by Multinational corporations. Perhaps the best reason for my belief is that homogeneity of products will be encouraged only when there is a homogenous/ similar demand all across the globe. And such a demand is likely to arise only when all the economies of the world are at par, till such time ,there would be varied differences in the products and services offered, thus main ting global disparity Even if, to certain extent the author’s claim may be true, ultimately, MNC’s have the physical, financial, and human resources at their disposal to invest in R&D to ensure ,that regional disparity in terms of products is maintained. For all these reasons , I therefore believe that inspite of the rise in MNC’s there is no global homogeneity .regional differences are maintained.
