  1. I am taking the GRE on Dec 14, so I don't think I'll have the official scores back in time for the Dec 17 deadline application for LSE. The GRE scores on the application are self reported so I will be able to enter my Q and V scores but for the Analytical section I won't know until 10-15 days after the 14th, it won't let me apply unless I put something down there so what should I do? Is my only hope to just guess what I'm going to get on the analytical section and pray the actual results match my guess?
  2. PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: Top 2 Canadian University Undergrad GPA: 3.88/4.0 Type of Grad: Grad GPA: GRE: waiting on results, should come soon Math Courses: Calculus (A), Multivariate Calc (A-), Linear Algebra I & II (A), Differential Equations (A+), Topics in Abstract Math (B+), Probability and Statistics (A+), Real Analysis (A+), Topology (In Progress), Nonlinear Optimization (winter semester), Group theory (Winter Semester) Econ Courses: Intro Micro and Macro (A-,A), Intermediate Micro and Macro (A,A-), Game Theory (A-), Information Economics (A+), Market Design (B+), Econometrics (A+), Behavioral Econ (A), Causal Inference (A), Advanced Macro (A), Financial Econ (In Progress), PhD Micro I (In Progress), IO (winter), International Trade (winter) Other Courses: Letters of Recommendation: 1.Prof who taught me Game theory, Information econ, and PhD Micro 2.AP who I RA'ed for, for a year 3. Professor who supervises the thesis course Research Experience: RA for a year, writing thesis, wrote a small theory paper about reputation in Information Econ class not sure if it counts Teaching Experience: N/A Research Interests: Micro theory or IO Other: Where should I be aiming for? One of my letter writers told me he's not sure if his letter would be good enough for top 10, how bad of a sign is this? Do I have a chance at top 15?
  3. Normally I would say that asking in person is the right way to go about it but now that I can't actually meet my professor in person, should I ask him by email for a recommendation letter? Or should I ask him to meet on zoom or something, I am hesitant to do this because it just seems like it would inconvenience him
  4. PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: Top 2 Canadian University Undergrad GPA: 3.9/4.0 Type of Grad: Grad GPA: GRE: Will take at the end of October Math Courses: Calculus (A), Multivariate Calc (A-), Linear Algebra I & II (A), Differential Equations (A+), Topics in Abstract Math (B+), Probability and Statistics (A+), Real Analysis (A+), Topology (In Progress), Nonlinear Optimization (winter semester), Group theory (Winter Semester) Econ Courses: Intro Micro and Macro (A-,A), Intermediate Micro and Macro (A,A-), Game Theory (A-), Information Economics (A+), Market Design (B+), Econometrics (A+), Behavioral Econ (A), Causal Inference (A), Advanced Macro (A), Financial Econ (In Progress), PhD Micro I (In Progress), IO (winter), Financial Econ 2 (winter) Other Courses: Letters of Recommendation: 1.Prof who taught me Game theory, Information econ, and PhD Micro 2.AP who I RA'ed for, for a year 3. I was hoping to ask whoever supervised my thesis but we haven't gotten to that part of the thesis course yet, so I may just ask the professor who is teaching the thesis course Research Experience: RA for a year, writing thesis, wrote a small theory paper about reputation in Information Econ class not sure if it counts Teaching Experience: N/A Research Interests: Micro theory or IO SOP: Writing it now Other: Where should I be aiming for?
  5. No I didn't know any people in the year above me who were going for an econ phd program
  6. PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: Top 2 Canadian University Undergrad GPA: 3.87 Type of Grad:n/a Grad GPA:n/a GRE: tbd Math Courses: Calculus (A), Multivariable Calc (A-), Linear Algebra I&II (A's), Probability and Statistics (A+), Real Analysis (A+), Differential Equations (A+), Topics in Abstract Math (basically a number theory course, B+), Functional Analysis (tbd), Complex analysis (tbd), Nonlinear optimization (tbd) Econ Courses: Intro Micro/Macro (A-,A), Intermediate Micro/Macro (A,A-), Game Theory (A-), Advanced Macro (A), Information Economics (A+), Market Design (B+), Behavioural Economics (A), Econometrics I (A+), Applied Regression Analysis (A), IO (tbd), Financial Econ I&II (tbd), Grad Micro (tbd), Econometrics II (tbd) Interests: IO, applied micro theory Letters of Recommendation: 1. Prof who taught me in 2 courses, will teach in grad micro 2. AP who I RA for 3. I haven't decided Research Experience: Will write senior thesis, RA for a year Concerns: B+ in Market Design, due to the pandemic a lot of the grade's weight was shifted onto an assignment I did not so well in even though I did well on the tests, but I do have the option to just designate it as a pass/fail so it wouldn't affect my gpa and the grade wouldn't show up on my transcript, but I am worried this would look worse than a B+ Questions: Where should I be aiming in terms of application?
  7. Hi, I am a Canadian undergrad at one of the top 2 Canadian universities and I am just looking for advice on whether a Canadian MA is needed if my goal is to get into a top 15 US PhD program. It seems like a common route but is it feasible to get into a top 15 straight out of undergrad? Here is my profile so far (just finished first semester of junior year) Type of Undergrad: Top 2 Canadian Undergrad GPA: 3.87/4.00 Math Courses: Calculus (A), Multivariable Calc (A-), Computational Linear Algebra (A), Proof-based Linear Algebra (A), Real Analysis (A+), Mathematical Probability/Statistics (A+), Number Theory (B+), Taking in the future: Nonlinear optimization, complex analysis, ODE, and then maybe an independent study course in functional analysis since I'm interested or if not abstract algebra. Econ Courses: Principles Micro (A-), Principles Macro (A), Intermediate Macro (A-), Intermediate Micro (A), Game Theory (mark pending), Behavioural Economics (A-), Econometrics I (A), Taking in the future: Advanced Macro, Information Economics, Market Design, IO, Econometrics II, maybe Grad Micro I, Financial Econ Research Experience: Currently RA for a professor, will write honours thesis in 4th year Research Interests: Have not decided yet, micro of any sort is something I can see myself doing Apart from doing well in future courses what can I do to improve my chances?
