I am actually confused about the ranking of Suny SB. So far I know, for Ph.D. CS it is around 30 -- I am not sure though. However, three applicants from Bangladesh got Ph.D admission in Stony Brook in Fall 06 and they too have pretty impressive profiles -- GRE over 1300, CGPA over 3.8 from the Best school in Bangladesh, success in international competitions (ACM ICPC and World Engineers' Competition), very good project works, few conference publications and fair enough AGRE score. Actually, the number of strong applicants is increasing day by day and the whole process is getting really tough and uncertain. So, it is not always the case that mid schools will be reluctant to offer to strong applicants. I think SUNY SB may have found lots of applicants with very good credentials this year ----- as the funding scenario is pretty impressive there.
