  1. Thanks gdrock. Some very useful info for me. It will definitely help me to think. However, I am happy that not so much to loose :)
  2. Hi gdrock Thanks !! That is really useful info for me. I have not yet got the details of financial packages. Once I get it, I will finalize. I am interested to know about the impact of Brand or Rank after Ph.D. I have heard that in USA, this is important.
  3. Thanks bovp2000, misspiggy, PseudoRandomThoughts. My profile is - GRE - 800Q 540V 4.0AWA TOELF - 273 CS GRE - 91 percentile ACM ICPC World Finals 2002 and 2003 (Reserve) According to US NEWS 2002, UCSD is ranked 20. Is it unchanged still. Also, if anybody knows the latest ranking in Architectures, Compilers for UCSD and UIUC, please post it.
  4. Got Ph.D. Admission in UIUC, UCSD, Univ. of Varginia and Stony Brook in CS program with funding. So far one rejection from Yale and waiting for the decision from UT Austin. I will choose anyone of UIUC and UCSD. UIUC has a better rank but UCSD is in California and it is always tough to get in UC-schools for international applicants. I had to make two telephone conversations with UCSD profs. My interest is in COmpilers, Architectures and Programming Languages. Can anyone please tell me which school (UIUC or UCSD) will be best for me.
  5. I am actually confused about the ranking of Suny SB. So far I know, for Ph.D. CS it is around 30 -- I am not sure though. However, three applicants from Bangladesh got Ph.D admission in Stony Brook in Fall 06 and they too have pretty impressive profiles -- GRE over 1300, CGPA over 3.8 from the Best school in Bangladesh, success in international competitions (ACM ICPC and World Engineers' Competition), very good project works, few conference publications and fair enough AGRE score. Actually, the number of strong applicants is increasing day by day and the whole process is getting really tough and uncertain. So, it is not always the case that mid schools will be reluctant to offer to strong applicants. I think SUNY SB may have found lots of applicants with very good credentials this year ----- as the funding scenario is pretty impressive there.
  6. Hello I am relatively new here and planning for GRE test within 5 or 6 months. I am interested to know what should be the frequency of learning new words. 100-200 per week or even more pace.
