  1. I think the consensus is that you need at least 167 in the quantitate reasoning section to be considered by the top 20 economics PhD programs. In other words, if you don't have a 167 in the quantitative reasoning section yet, continue taking the exam until you do. I personally took the GRE three times and still managed to get offers from the top 20 schools. Good luck out there!
  2. Firstly, congratulations on getting accepted into these programs! Disclaimer, I do not have the foresight/wisdom your letter writers might have. With that in mind, since location, rank, and funding are similar I would really only consider placements, culture, and research interests (on the condition that you're certain you know what you wish to study). To gauge culture, I recommend you speak to as many PhD candidates as possible and ask them about level of support they received in years three through six.
  3. I'm attending an economics PhD program in the fall and want to hit the ground running. The department has recommended I complete this online review course in preparation for math camp this September. However, I'm not sure if there's anything else I should be doing to set myself up for success. Any advise or wisdom is welcome, however, I was wondering Should I connect with faculty before I arrive on campus? How do incoming graduate students prepare in the month leading up to math camp? Are there any general resources/books that graduate students have found particularly helpful during their first year? Thanks in advance!

SOP: Standard, not tailored Other: A lot of service work RESULTS: Acceptances: UCLA ($), UW-Madison ($$$$), BU ($$$), UNC Chapel Hill ($$), UT Austin ($$), UC Davis ($$) Waitlists: UM Twin Cities, UMD College Park Rejections: A lot LOL Attending: UCLA Comments: Don't tell your parents you've gotten into a program until you receive the offer letter. UC Davis gave me a informal acceptance and then moved me to a waitlist because too many people held onto their offers. What would you have done differently? Stress less. If you work a 9-to-5, then take a week off to make your decision.
  5. I was waitlisted last week Friday. I was emailed by the admissions committee.
  6. My letter writers have described BU as a strong and well rounded program with a particularly strong macro group.
  7. @Fred52@Vivvv Did y'all receive a formal offer from UC Davis yet?
  8. I pulled some pre-pandemic data from the Grad Cafe before they changed the format. This week I anticipate we'll see the first wave of acceptances from NYU, MIT, Duke, Cornell, and Columbia.
  9. Still haven't received a formal letter from UC Davis
  10. Only informal acceptances from what I know of. There was an acceptance on GC, however, I haven’t seen anyone confirm receiving an offer in the Sweat Thread
  11. Good question, I think it’s the latter. When I think of a top-5 predoc I think of the really competitive programs like EPIC, Opportunity Insights, and the Tobin Center.
  12. No yet 😬, how about y’all?
  13. Emailed chair yesterday, he said “there should be some news this week, since the committee has now completed both rounds of evaluations.”
  14. I pulled some pre-pandemic data before GC changed their website format. On average, UT Austin and UMD accepted applicants in late February and early March.
