  1. I'm currently holding only one offer, from a school that said I have until tomorrow 12pm EST to accept its offer. However, I'm still waiting for a decision from two schools for which I'm on the waitlist and that would definitely dominate my current offer. What should I do if I don't get news from the schools for which I'm waitlisted until the 12pm ddl? Just accept the offer that I'm holding and later decline it in case I get off some of the waitlists? I don't even know if this is possible.
  2. Got accepted off the Minnesota waitlist about 4 weeks ago and declined the offer a few days ago. So don't lose hope!
  3. In my view, the most important factor to choose a PhD program is placement. In this aspect, Yale clearly dominates Penn, conditional on any field. Moreover, Yale PhD program is much more functional (better advising culture, funding, etc). Finally, I would say that Yale macro-growth group is as strong as Penn's. I also got an offer from Penn this cycle, my interests are in business cycles/monetary theory/DSGE models (which is probably Penn's comparative advantage), but I wish I had an offer from Yale.
  4. Does anyone know the date of Northwestern visit day? I'm waitlisted at NU and want to update my prior about when we can expect the waitlist to start moving.
  5. Got an offer from Penn this season and have been talking recently with PhD students there. They raised some issues related to advising and how the program is managed, which translate into somewhat disappointing placements (yet some students consider that things are getting better with the arrival of a new Director of Graduate Studies). But something that has definitely improved at Penn is funding (which was indeed a big problem of the program in past years). As far as I know, this year Penn offered a very competitive stipend covering 5 years of PhD training for all admitted applicants.
  6. Me. Sent an email to them last week asking about the status of my application. Received the following answer: "(...) Our admissions committee is making offers on rolling basis. Most admissions decisions will be made by mid-March, but please kindly note that given the strength of our candidate pool, the committee will be making decisions through the April 15 deadline."
  7. I'm not poster, but have just received an offer letter by email.
  8. Thanks and huge congrats!!
  9. Can anyone confirm NYU acceptances today? If yes, what was the method of notification? Was the formal acceptance preceded by an informal offer email?
  10. Thanks for the info! Does anyone know if the situation is the same for NYU?
  11. According to GC posts, by email
  12. Thanks a lot, that's a precious piece of advice!
  13. Hi there, I'm currently waitlisted at two top-5 schools and one school that is top-10 in my field, but my best offer so far is from a top-15 program. Do you guys know from personal or other people's experience what are the most effective strategies to increase my chances of being accepted off the waitlists? I've been invited to the hybrid visit day of one of the schools where I'm waitlisted, and I believe this is my best opportunity to get into it. However, I'm still deciding whether I will attend it in person or virtually. I'm an international applicant, so the reimbursement offered will not cover all my costs, and I also need to deal with bureaucracies like getting a US visa and a vaccine passport (only my booster shot is from a vaccine accepted in the US). Do you think that not attending the event in person can impact negatively my chances of getting into this program? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
  14. Best of luck! I'll decline my Brown offer soon.
  15. Did anyone receive an email from UPenn asking if you are still interested in the program? Is this an informal acceptance? I found it quite confusing, don't know if they sent an email like that in previous years.
  16. Columbia, LSE, Northwestern for me
  17. Does anyone have information about UChicago Visit Day? I'm waitlisted there and would like to know if I can attend it.
  18. Had a conversation with admissions chair of UWM. If I understood well, he said that the first batch of acceptances has already been 100% sent. Then, they will interview applicants in late Feb/early March to select the second batch of acceptances. Good luck to those waiting a response from them!
  19. Recall that a poster with insider information said previously here that new waves of results could be out in late Feb/early March.
  20. Which results are you expecting to be released this week? Yale, MIT, ... ?
  21. Most people who posted on GC saying that they were admitted at UW mentioned that they received a fellowship. It might be the case that UW first sent acceptance letters for those who were selected for the fellowship, and will still send a second wave of admits with a lower stipend. I think that Rochester followed the same pattern. Moreover, I would wait to see waitlist results on GC before inferring an IR. Anyway, it is a just theory.
  22. BA+ MSc in Econ from one of the best programs of my Latin American country, some RA experience, GRE 169Q/158V/4.0AW, field of interest is macro. Every year students from my department are approved at Rochester (especially those with a LoR from one of my letter writers). Rochester was probably a safe school for me.
